hello everyone, i have grown dahlias for the first time ever this year, from seed, mr f's cactus mixed. mine are all the same size as Tel's, and i was wondering when i should expect to see them come into flower, i know what it advises on the packet, but was just interested in everyones' comments of their own experiences from seed. i'm very happy with the germination rate and the health and vigour of the plants, and so may start to take this seriously i am very interested in the cactus types at present, but can see myself getting going with all the others too before long! am thinking of going along to a couple of local shows to observe and learn, and to see if i could maybe go for this in the future, or see ive absolutely no hope!!! haha, thanks guys ;D Hello there I have been growing and exhibiting dahlias for 17 years (carnations and chrysanthemums before dahlias). If you are interested I have my own website called Paul's Dahlia Guide (www.paulsdahliaguide.info) and would be delighted to help with questions you may have. Also within the site I have hyperlinked some advice sheets including one for general gardening rather than exhibiting use. See what you think. Who knows the bug may bite. The dahlias you are currently growing would be fine for cut flower/garden display, serving your dahlia growing apprenticeship. If you do intend to exhibit later on then you will need dahlias of a higher standard in form. I have another page on the site of my favourite dahlias. I have aimed the site largely at the beginner exhibitor with 'down to earth' (pardon the pun) information. Also on the permission of the suppliers I have listed products I genuinly use myself. Regards, Paul

Feeding (supplementary): I use Maxicrop bio-stimulant from cuttings onwards at every watering, then Maxicrop Garden Feed 4 weeks after planting, then Maxicrop Tomato Feed when buds form (tomato feed was short supply so I will be using Maxicrop Flower feed). Paul

I wonder if the Gardeners World Star, has come down to earth long enough to stop her dahlias yet.

Oh, and here's 'Roxy' in flower. I kept her tubers from last year. I'm going to plant her out tomorrow.
