Good link WF. I still haven't checked my potatoes because I don't have to walk over to them unless they need water.

I earthed up the few that had just begun to show yesterday, we were forecast a frost last night.
The link gave me a better understanding of why to earth up potatoes, I will pay more attention to mine this year.

Oh I always earth up with rice hull and coco coir right after they peek out of the top and I only let one shaw grow must be why I get small taters. I'll remember to let at a few more shaws develop rather than covering up most of them. ;D Hope I get a lot of big uns for more curly fries.

That was fascinating reading Sue, thanks for putting it on here. There is nowt like a freshly dug spud for your dinner.
Can you get lots of rice hulls and coco coir J??

The coco coir we make it ourselves we just borrow the machine that turns the coconut husks into coir and fibers after we've processed our coconuts. The rice hulls we get for free from a rice mill in the area. We usually take the truck and haul away all the husks and chaff we want whenever we need to plant taters.

Low temps enough to blacken potato foliage given out for the weekend...more earthing up

The potato leaves are not very high, am I supposed to cover them with soil or just enough so that some leaves show? I did this today, but perhaps I should have covered them.

Any exposed leaves will get blackened if the temps drop enough, it won't kill them off though but just set them back a bit, you can earth them over fully or drape something like a fleece over
