When the stem has a couple of open flowers, normally. My sweet peas were a disaster last year, so I'm hoping for a much better crop in 2013! I started them off in October, and they've all germinated.

Lovely Mary.
Geranium, I shall start mine off now in the unheated greenhouse. I know it is late, but I am just getting around to gardening.

No reason why they shouldn't germinate. It's time I pinched mine out.

No reason why they shouldn't germinate. It's time I pinched mine out. no need to pinch them out yet. Soon as you pinch them they try to produce side shoots, as opposed developing the root system. If natural breaks haven't occurred by february time, pinch them then.

Lovely Mary. Geranium, I shall start mine off now in the unheated greenhouse. I know it is late, but I am just getting around to gardening. They will need a bit of bottom heat at this time of year. I place mine on an aluminium heat mat. Takes about 7-14 days. Mine were started 4th November. I use 20 cell trays to germinate them and then transplant into pots/rootrainers.

Geranium, I don't pinch at all. Scrumpy has it just right. A leader will naturally emerge when the time is right and like he said, let the roots develop.

If they were under water too G, don't worry overmuch. if the compost is free draining they will usually rcover. Sps are much tougher than most people think.
