I gave a friend some once, from the river. She's still speaking even though she had to get the farmer to dig um out ;D

The garden floods a couple of times a year, that one was a particularly bad one, we were getting nevouse about the house that time. We have flood boards too and are well prepared if the 1 in 500 comes along.

I gave a friend some once, from the river. She's still speaking even though she had to get the farmer to dig um out ;D I haven't mentioned that one of my projects a few years ago was to clear a stretch of stream bank - nettles, brambles and other nasties. I got it all done, planted it up and two weeks later, the stream flooded badly and I had submarine plants! I lost most of them, plus some wooden steps OH had made for me to get down onto the bank. I was somewhat annoyed! Seaburn gave me some flag irises last year, and they've had a chance to get their roots down. There's plenty of room for more! Oh, and the new steps are bolted onto the stone bridge.

Do you ever play 'poo sticks' Geranium? No, but I sometimes 'drop' a weed in the stream if I'm wading about in there, and watch it float away with no guilt at all! The old stone bridge over the stream is almost like a tunnel - I wouldn't want to crawl through it, but our grandson walked through when he was about 5 and could do it just by bending down - it has a curve, so it looks dark under there - we all thought he was very brave at that age! One end - the stream's running normally on this photo. Would you want to crawl through? The other end, 5m away - after I cleared the bank ready for planting. We have no idea how old this bridge is, but it's built of the same stone as the house, and there must have been some sort of bridge there for access when the house was built in 1508.
