You can sow them in succession from spring up to June but you will have to cover them with fleece to keep the carrot fly off.

I usually sow mine early April, but left it until 1st week in June this year. Think they are just beginning to come through now. I use enviromesh to cover mine.

Only if you are going to harvest them in the next couple of weeks. I think there is another round of carrot fly to come after that.

I claim a world record. Five rows sowed down the allotment, end of June, out of about 3000 seeds not one germinated. Or if they did, they shrivelled before I checked them. The weeds I didn't sow have grown beautifully though.

These are the carrots I grew at home in a raised bed 12" high. About 12 foot long, 2 foot 3 inches wide, 12" high There are 4 rows and the carrots are spaced 4" apart in the rows. As you can see I made up my own carrot fly protection, kept it on all the time. Variety is Carrot Flakkee Bastia F1. They were sown early April and good sized carrots were ready to harvest Mid August. This is one I got up today. Most look like this in the beds. The wife moaned that I was growing carrots at home until I said she could start using them and she tried to get one up. After much effort she was delighted when she realised one carrot would do a meal for all of us Over 12" long, really good thickness, nice taste. Certainly one I'll be growing next year.

In spring frost time or cool season, expose in full sun applied on it. Make sure your soil is free of stones; carrots need deeply tilled soil that they can push through.

Wait until the soil warms up in spring for all direct sown seeds.

Don't forget that carrots, like spuds come in early and maincrop varieties which means them being sown and maturing at different times. ps I have never covered against carrot fly and never had any problems. I have of course used cloches at times and also plastic collars for the exhibition carrots and parsnips but not for the ordinary kitchen crop.
