Could be Chamaecyparis? lawsoniana? maybe It looks like it needs either a bigger pot or planting out, the green stuff is a moss type plant just pull it off when you put fresh soil in, and when re-potting just make sure it is central and force compost all around then it should sit straight

Could be Chamaecyparis? lawsoniana? maybe i think maybe i'll stick to calling it baby pine tree, why do plants have such crazy long and hard to pronounce names thanks for the advice though, i'll try to find a bigger plant pot, would putting it in the ground be okay or would it just get TOO big ? that probably sounds silly but how much bigger is it likely to get ? or does that depend on the pot or soil area i put it in ?

It is a tree so it will eventually get big ...you could keep trimming and shaping it or keep in a pot

I agree, it is a Lawson's Cypress, probably the form Ellwoodii. Quite slow growing but it will still need to move up a pot size in the next year or so.
