a few days make. Been on holiday since Sunday, got back today and was amazed at what the little but of sunshine has done to them. Tried a little video so please excuse what it looks like, never tried it before. Just click on the photo. Will cut a fair selection and arrange them properly and pretend it's show day tomorrow ...got some real beauties amongst that lot. Then it's time to layer again.

Just cut about 90 stems. Quite a few left. In the space of 5 days i've gone from 28 not so good ones to the ones below. Could very easily have got 5 individual vases of 7 to a vase, and 3 vases of 7, with not a bad bloom amongst the George Priestly, below....this is one i've not grown before. Came with a good reputation but I don't like it so not one for next year. I'm going to have a real go at saving my own seed for next year from this lot, as there is a bit of variation, especially the Sir Jimmy Shand. Will stick with Millenium, Sir Jimmy and Zillah Harrod. The rest will be seeds saved from my F2 hybrids. I was going to grow them at the allotment but decided against as it's difficult enough at home looking after them without going down there, so it'll be pot luck.

They're very pretty scrumpy I used to annoy my dad by picking his sp flowers and putting them in my room when I was younger. Too bad I can't grow them here.

Your video was fine scrumpy. for a moment I thought I was in my old garden as even the shed looked the same. Is that white frills you have there? You are right that its amazing what a bit of sun can do.

Yes, it's White Frills. As for the shed, my favourite part of the house

A man sat at the table for coffee a couple of days ago and he admired my sheds. He became an instant best friend.

They look super. I have just got my Roger Parsons catalogue today. I might do better next year. From his catalogue White Frills, Millenium and Eclipse are the ones I'd recommend. The latter two are particularly nice colours.

Heres another video, with a bit of commentary. The plants have been layered twice, which is a first for me as they've usually all died by now, so in real terms they'd be at least 12 foot tall. The stems have held up remarkably well too, and whereas some were producing 3 blooms per stem, they are now going back to fours. The best varieties for stems and overall vigour are definitely the seedlings. They are still at least 18" in length, good thickness. Didn't see anything at Shrewsbury show close to their size. I shall be collecting seeds from Millenium, Zillah Harrod and Sir Jimmy Shand. So next year I sohuld in theory have a more uniform colour of them all. As for the seedlings, I will be collecting as much seed as I can from now on, and if anyone wants to take pot luck and try them then I'll gladly post some to you. No idea what colour they'll be, well I know what I hope they'll be, but they will certainly grow into strong plants.
