The time has arrived for probably the best time of the year for catching a shooting star. The perseids, so named because they appear to radiate from the constellation Perseus can be seen almost any time in the weeks before and after the 12th August which is the peak period. if you have a clear sky tonight it is worth sitting out for a while and just looking up as they can appear anywhere in the sky. So far my count has been 1 last night and 6 the night before. if it is clear tonight our little group will be meeting down at the Pembrokeshire coast armed with deckchairs, flasks and just our eyes as you don't need binoculars or anything for this. You might also see the ISS too. (International Space Station) I saw it on the last two nights. very bright and travels across the sky at a leisurely pace. makes for a pleasant experience particularly if close to some night scented stock or nicotiana

I never have much luck when I look out for the meteor showers Sweetpea but I have seen the Space Station go over many times. Our local T.V. news weatherman usually reminds us & I also have a link to a site called Human Space Flight which if you put in where you live tells you the exact time you should see it. I love watching it go over thinking about the astronauts looking down on us.

We had dinner outside and talked about the meteor shower, but there is high cloud tonight.

Cloudy here! Every time there is an astronomical event it seems to cloud over! Once watched the Leonids after night fishing on the coast - Amazing!!

Former work colleague took this from her mobile phone around 2.30 in the morning on Friday.
