I had a call from the surgery yesterday, they have made an appt for me with the diabetic nurse. I am even more bemused now. Nobody explained why I have to see her. Does this mean I do have diabetes? Why didn't my GP want to see me?
To be honest, I am upset and a bit scared of what is happening. To make it worse, OH will be away and can't come to ask questions and support me.

They can tell from a blood test how your body has been processing sugar for a previous number of Months Geranium, and can tell if you are heading that way in the future, it might mean you just have to watch the intake of some things like cakes, pastries sweets etc to keep it in hand, I am sure if it was serious they would have recommended treatment straight away

Write a list of questions before you go Geranium so that you don't forget what you want to know but I'm sure the nurse will give you all the information, at our surgery it's normal to see the practice nurse rather than the doctor after any initial appointment. Type 2 diabetes is very common nowadays, my brother-in-law & half sister both have it & my late mum-in-law had it & lived to almost 92 happily ignoring it a lot of the time apart from having to do the blood tests. People think it means you can't eat anything sweet at all with Type 2 but like all things it mainly involves sensible eating, fats & carbohydrates & general weight issues affect it as well. My O.H. is going for blood tests tomorrow as well, I think he's having cholesterol, diabetes etc. but he didn't ask so it could be for anything! ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

Writing a list of questions is a great idea Geranium, I do it everytime I go to rheumatology as I would forget what i wanted to ask. Hope all goes well for you ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Wish i'd done that yesterday when i went to see Rheumatology consultant was only in there for 5-10 minutes all because i hadn't seen the ocupational therapy as yet, he said i'll see you in 3 months time when i've had my gloves made for my hands. The good news is all my blood results are really good. Good luck geranium ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Thank you for that good advice - I am also thinking of asking Eva to come with me as OH will be away, she is so level headed, she won't let me panic.

She says she will come, and 'sort out' that awful patronising nurse who treats me like a 5-year old!! My hairdresser told me about her mother's experience of border line blood sugar levels. I was a bit daunted by all the things likely to happen next, like yet another blood test, only a fasting one this time, then trips to the hospital clinic. SIGH!!!!

other half was told he had type 2 Geranium he changed his diet and is now no longer in the danger zone, so it's nothing to get worried about ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

OH came back from his "morning constitutional" to say that he saw a pod of dolphins in the harbour mouth doing a bit of fishing. The local fishermen will not like that!!

Post operation recuperation so no gardening for me for at least a month. Going to be hard to stagger round the place and not give in to temptation and do something.
