I thought I'd make time to pop in and say hello today. Things haven't been very good here lately. Beryl is so disabled now, and seems to be getting worse. I also have things slowing me down, and it has all resulted in me not being able to do anything in the garden this year. The weather also has a lot to answer for ! What a wet summer we've had again this year I do enjoy the rain but I also enjoy a bit of warm sunshine ... I don't mind winter rain though. It isn't frosty when it rains and I hate cold temperatures.
I hope you are all well. Nice flower arrangement, and are those really cakes ? someone has been working hard.
Sorry to moan. Maybe I'll see you again soon ...

Sorry to hear you and Beryl and not feeling too well atm Eli. I think most of us are at that age where our aches and pains get us down, especially when our minds are still "young at heart". I don't post on any of my forums as much as I used to and I've given up a few as well. Its lovely to hear from you whenever you've a mind to come and say "hello". Which reminds me.. Geranium doesn't seem to post at all now on any of the forums we are both members of; hope she is ok.

Your garden still looks lovely in the photos you've posted Eli & I'm sure it must cheer Beryl up to see it through the window, you'll have to bring some more of your cacti/succulents/fuchsias etc. indoors to keep your spirits up, hope you both feel a bit better soon. Maybe you can get some help to care for Beryl, don't struggle on alone & make yourself ill as well. I was told the cakes in the photos were entirely edible, incredibly clever!

Thank you all for your kind words and your concern. It's not that Beryl isn't 'well' really, but she is very disabled. She has severe arthritis and is unable to walk, and can't stand for more than a few seconds at a time, therefore she needs a lot of help with different things. I am finding it rather tiring because I also have arthritis but I soldier on. I don't worry about trivialities any more, so if the place is in a mess, it's in a mess. Who cares And if something falls down, it falls down, and gets picked up when I can get around to bending etc As for the garden, well, it gets done when it gets done and that's that.
So because I have been feeling rather tired out by it all, I haven't posted on forums this year like I used to do. However, I hope to try and come on a bit more often in the future, now that I don't worry so much about things

Do keep posting Eli when you feel in the mood, I agree that you don't need to worry about the little things & being tidy but I'm sure you should be able to get some help to look after Beryl, didn't someone come around before when you were having trouble getting her out of her chair a while ago? I'm not sure how the health system works in Wales but I do know that here they're keen on people getting help in their own homes rather than ending up in hospital even if it's only the occasional 10 minute visit from a carer or nurse or fitting mobility aids around your house, we had them when my mum-in-law was very elderly & not so mobile. The winter weather won't be helping but Spring will not be far away so keep on keeping on!

Eli, Its difficult at times but you sound so positive today As Sue was saying I'm sure there would be some help you could get, might be worth speaking to your GP about the help for yourself and Beryl. We are only 29 days away from the shortest day and the sun is on it's way back to us

We're always here to listen EliI agree with Sue and Rosie, it might be worth trying to get help for Beryl, I'm sure you're entitled and it would make life easier for both of you. I worked in the homecare system for 14 years and hopefully I made a difference for a lot of people

Thank you all for your comments. It doesn't feel so lonely when there's someone to talk to. Friends and family are good but they (especially family) tend to get on my nerves a bit lol ...
Really I don't know how anyone can help. The biggest difficulty is that Beryl needs to go to the toilet often and has to change her underwear every time she goes. Those pads etc are uncomfortable for her because her legs are so swollen. So there's always a lot of washing to do. The machine does it but I am constantly taking things in and out of it and the tumble drier. They are working overtime lol
She needs help also to get up from the chair. Carers can't come in for that because you never know when you'll want to go, do you ... and with Beryl it's about every hour or so. Also because of her swollen legs and bad arthritis, she often has 'accidents' and the toilet floor has to be wiped. It happens at different times so a carer is no good for that. It's down to me.
I don't fret about it so much now. I used to worry a lot but these days I just get on with it the best I can. We have a stairlift and grab rails etc and a ramp to come in to the house. I don't think there's anything else we can have.
Anyway I'm going to bring my Fuchsias into the old outside toilet this afternoon. It's nice and sunny today

It must get you both down Eli, has Beryl seen a doctor to make sure she doesn't have a bladder infection? Do you have one of those chairs which 'rises' & tips forward which would help Beryl get up? A commode might help a bit if you could fit one in near the chair, my mum-in-law was very reluctant to have one but it was useful as she didn't have a downstairs toilet but then maybe that would just be another cleaning job for you. Hope you managed to get your fuchsias in while the sun was shining, wintry showers on the way now.

Amazing how much rubbish one keeps over the years. Trying to tidy up the sheds in case we manage to move. Filled the bin and a sack and only done one shed.

Yes if you are like me, The broken forks spades and brush handles, tins of paint with an inch of solid dry paint in the bottom, secateurs with springs missing, rusty odd sized nails and screws, the bits off window blinds that you didn't need once you installed them, pens and markers that don't work....all in case they come in handy one day
