Oh Eli I'm very much saddened to hear this and of course the impact it has had on you too. I can't find any soothing words of comfort apart from if you are planning on seeing them then you can be assured your visits will be of great support and undoubtedly very welcomed. If you don't feel able to then that is equally fine too just make sure you do something each day that brings you pleasure / joy.....keep them in your thoughts but try not to get too immersed in the sadness....hard I know. Just try to remember that if they have been unwell then a peaceful passing surrounded by family and friends will be a blessing. Look after yourself xx

Thank you jellibeans xx I won't be visiting them, I don't want to intrude at such a sad time, and they may not know I'm there anyway. One of the ladies is in her late 80s and has been poorly for quite some time. The other one is older, probably over 90, and she was a keen gardener. She was always talking to me about her garden and asking about mine. I gave her several cuttings of different plants over the years. She was growing vegetables and tending her greenhouse right up until last year. She lived 3 houses down the hill from me and I'm going to miss waving to her 'over the garden fences'

It is sad, Hywel, when people you know come to the end of their lives. It also makes us more conscious of our own mortality.

It is sad to hear that Eli, we lost a neighbour from a few doors away last autumn & went to her funeral. She was 92 & had dementia but wanted to stay in her own home & had carers calling in. She was a gardener too & I helped her prune her favourite hydrangeas in her last few years & listened to her stories, the same ones again & again, & took her magazines & flowers. I'm sure a lot of the time she hadn't a clue who I was but she liked to have someone to talk to. Your neighbours might like to see you but I can understand you being reluctant as it's upsetting & I was worried I might be intruding but her niece thanked me for keeping an eye on her.

Roof work today. Put extra flashing on the back of the chimney stack where it leaked into the living room ceiling, painted Silicon sealant on the back of the chimney as well. Not easy work as there is not much room behind the chimney to stand on. Won't know if it works until the next thunderstorm and massive rainfall. How has it stood up to the rain test of a few days ago? I hope it passed with flying colours!

Difficult to tell if it has worked. Certainly the wall inside is dry, but stained. Need to find out if this wallpaper can be painted over.

Spent half the day trying to find out why her phone will not make calls out. Hate telephones at the best of times.

geumgrower, You could use lining paper to cover the wall. I've done this on several walls in our flat and it works a treat! I'm not "fond" of phones either, my phone is used much more as a camera or for messaging than talking!

I went recently to see a friend who's had a hip replacement operation. She's doing well and is walking with crutches at the moment but that won't be for very long.
Anyway, I took her to get a few things in a local supermarket (small enough for her to walk around and I carried the basket for her) then we had lunch in a pub on the banks of the second fastest river in Britain. We sat outside and it was lovely to hear the river rush past.
The pub is very old and was originally built over the boundaries of three counties, so part of it was in Carmarthenshire, part was in Glamorgan and part was in Breconshire (now called 'Powys' ) The boundaries have changed so it's all in Carmarthenshire now. It is said King George IV once stayed there but I don't know if that's true.

Eli just as well you made the most of the good weather, because it has been dull and wet most of the time. That made a nice change for you, because it is good to have company at a nice pub by a river.

The art group I belong to are joining with two other towns, to hold an exhibition of people's work, and it's being held in the library of the nearest town to me.
I was roped in to help them hang the paintings on the walls last Saturday, and I was roped in to 'man' the exhibition this morning. And I've been roped in to do the same on Wednesday afternoon. I've never been so busy in my life ! (... well I have actually, that was just a joke ! )
