They spent a few hours with us on Saturday evening and our daughter came a little earlier than usual to pick up her 3 children and stay about an hour before having to scoot off.
Our youngest son, who lives a 20 minute walk away, organised a BBQ for us all Sunday afternoon. Our daughter & family couldn't make it but she hopes to host one herself before Friday.
It's 5 years since our son from Spain last came over to see us so it was lovely to have all 3 of our kids and their families altogether in our place for about an hour on Saturday! 👌

That is wonderful news balc2 and it feels almost sad that we miss so much of our grandchildren growing up. Your garden will suffer some neglect now.

We had our son & his family over for lunch yesterday and our other granddaughter. It's lovely to see see how the 2 cousins get on so well together! They're the best of friends!
Our daughter came over, with her youngest son, to meet up with her 2 brothers in the nearby pub. It always makes me feel good when I see how well they all get on with each other! 👌

I am looking forward to my eldest son coming from Scotland on Saturday night. He is stopping off in Glasgow to play with the pipe band in the World Pipe Band Championships.

Our son is now back in Spain. After flight delays they finally arrived 90 minutes late!
Our youngest son is going to to Mallorca today, for a week.
Just a few days ago one of my sisters returned from a week there.
Within the same week we have had more family travelling backwards and forwards to Spain than in the whole of the last year! 😂
We ourselves may go over for a week during the school holidays in October. But no to any of the coastal resorts. If we do go it will be with our oldest 2 grandchildren. We will be going to my wife's hometown about as far as you can get from the coasts! But that depends on the results from the eye clinic where she has an appointment next Monday.

A couple of days ago I bought a growbag from our local shop. When I got it on the balcony I cut it in half & put the pots of 3 tomato plants in each half! (the plants WITHOUT the pots! ) I stood them up vertically & they make pretty good big pots! I've never grown dwarf/miniature tomatoes before so I put 3 plants in each of 3 wide but shallow pots. They have grown much bigger than I anticipated so I was forced to repot them - only I don't have any bigger pots! I don't want to buy any more big pots so what could I do? Then it occurred to me that I could buy a growbag & cut it in half & then put the plants in them which is what I did! The other pot of tomatoes I thought I would plant in the half bag of compost I already had on the balcony but after doing the other 2 pots I discovered their was less than a 1/4 of a bag of compost left! So today I bought another bag of compost & on Monday I will repot the tomatoes that I couldn't do the other day!

Sandringham was busier this year and the Royals weren’t there which was a huge disappointment. It was a very good show though and I had a rest in the flower demonstration tent.

I finally got around to replanting this third pot of tomatoes yesterday and now they should grow away strongly. One of the "dwarf" toms is already over 2ft tall yet its 2 companions in the pot are dwarves!

While we are re-newing old threads I thought we could do with a new fence ;D Perhaps it's nearly time to start another thread - this "old fence" could do with renewing! (Perhaps after we reach page 500?)

Daft question time. Why is it that the only labels not to disappear are the ones on dead plants?

Daft question time. Why is it that the only labels not to disappear are the ones on dead plants? As they say, "That's the $65 question!"

Would you believe it survived the winter even after being frozen as you can see in the photo above?I've grown Petunias many times over the last 20+ years on the balcony but they had never lasted longer than the end of October. I never, ever expected a Petunia to survive being frozen - not once but 3 times, as we had heavy (for us) frosts with at least -7C (below freezing)! This photo was taken at the beginning of April 2024. I don't have any more photos as the planter began to fill up with germinating weed seeds & we also had a LOT of rain. Self-sown Violas still flowering in May 2024!

This is a recent photo of the containers one year after being put in place by our Town Council operatives! Sorry the plants are hardly visible in this shot but in a month's time or so I'll get another photos where I shall try to show how the plants have grown since I took the last photo (if they survive that long!) of the containers by the cash machine just planted up on 25th July 2024

well what a busy week I have had. Victoria came up from Norfolk a week on Friday, we had weekend up in Sunderland visiting my 3 brother's [avoided wreckage in city center after the unrest on the Friday]. Back home and into Hull city centre shopping [avoided the wreckage in Hull too] Toria and I then spent a couple of days sorting through her cupboards/drawers. Piles a]charity b]bin c]take to marital home and d] leave in bedroom for later. Her husband Dan then came up on Thursday and we had a lovely 3 days with Elizabeth joining us for meals and walks etc. They went home yesterday and hubby and I have just completed a 200 mile motor bike ride in Nth Lincolnshire and E Yorkshire. Involved 3 trips over the Humber bridge and 1 trip over Booth Ferry bridge.
