been unable to post due to continuing computer problems. So to all those birthdays I have missed, It wasn't intentional. Seems that the PC is behaving itself atm but I doubt it will last going by recent behaviour. Been getting a most annoying popup which comes on for 2 seconds and then off for between 2 & 7 seconds. It is 'Autoplay with a running progress bar and search torch. When on screen you can't type or anything and you have to try in the gap when it disappears, several times I thought I had got rid but eventually it comes back. if anyone has experienced this and knows how to get shot of it they will be my friend for life

sweetpea, open your MSCONFIG > STARTUP tab and uncheck everything else that is not your Antivirus - maybe AVG, Kaspersky, Avast, Norton, McAfee, NOD32 or something like that Microsoft or Windows items So basically all the stuff in there are the programs that run everytime you open your PC. The only thing really important is your antivirus and windows stuff so that's the only things that should have checks next to them. You can read up on how to open your MSCONFIG here, whichever windows you are using. WinXP www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_xp.htmlWinVista www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_vista.htmlWin7 www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_win7.htmlHope it works! I asked my hubby about it.

Thank you Jrae. I did read somewhere about how to get rid doing something similar but couldn't find it again It seems to have vanished for the moment, hence my being able to type this but no doubt it will return and if/when it does I will follow your instructions. Thanks again. (and not forgetting your OH)
