Last thing I expected to see here but my boy came in and said there was a badger in the garden and even when he shone a torch at it so I could see, it didn't run off. i went and got some peanuts which I know they like and put some down but it wandered off into the undergrowth. well chuffed now Raked up a large pile of leaves for the hedgehog house I will make tomorrow. not that we have seen any hedgehogs for a while now.

You probably remember that badgers aren't my favourite animal - they've wrecked my lawns so often in previous years, and eaten all my tulip bulbs too. This time last year we splashed out on Nematodes and watered all the grass - against chafer grubs which seemed to be the main attraction. It has been wonderful this year - only a few minor holes to cope with rather than the 'ploughed field' look. So - I won't be welcoming any badgers into my garden, Sweetpea!

That's lovely Sweetpea, I've never seen a live badger.

We have plenty round here, Sue. Unfortunately, so many get killed on our lanes every day that I see more dead ones than live. :'(West Somerset is going to be a 'badger cull' ares soon. We've been warned officially by the Police that there are likely to be activists around.

Being essentially a 'townie' I'm against the cull - emotionally because badgers are beautiful looking creatures but also I don't think culling will work from what I've read. I'm always really upset when I see a dead badger by the road which is the only place I've seen them apart from on TV!

I'm not in favour of it either, I know they have to do something about TB in cattle, but I still don't think this is the answer.

The farmers around here seem to be in favour, but I agree - I'm not entirely convinced that it's the answer.

The RSPCA along with noteable other people are adamant that it will do no good at all, but they will go ahead blindly and do it because they don't want to lose face IMO

I hate the idea that some will just be wounded, and farmers can't deal with them once they go into their setts. It's a cruel business.

If you lived here, you'd have to maintain a dignified silence on that topic, Rosie. There's an active 'Hunt' here, and we often see the hounds being walked through the village. So many people ride, too - I daren't ask if they join in the hunting.
