Well I have just posted off my entry form for the trial's. Sending Garden Friends and the Red Small Decorative seedling, it cannot do any worse than Pudsey, that came last in the trials. Good luck our Tel, you put a lot of work into your dahlia's and deserve a reward

I think it is a smashing dahlia Tel. Mine have stood up to the wind and rain really well and the earwigs don't seem to have bothered them very much. The plants are stocky and well branched with lots of blooms

Collerettes never seem to score highly at trials, Tel. But that is still a good dahlia immaterial of what the trial assessors think.
Looking at the cultivars that have won the Leeds Trials in the past a lot seem to have vanished without trace, so I tend not to take much notice of the 'winners' any more.

I agree it seems the kiss of death the trials there are a few about eg White Moonlight, Hillcrest Kismet, but not shown greatly

I agree it seems the kiss of death the trials there are a few about eg White Moonlight, Hillcrest Kismet, but not shown greatly So why risk going for a trial? It seems so disheartening when your varieties let you down. If you believe that you have discovered a fab new one shouldn't you yourself want to grow it anyway? If you like it then grow it as a regular garden dahlia, grow it for that. If you think that it is a strong contender on the show bench, why not show it and if it is so good other people will be interested and want to grow it to. Especially if it beats their exhibits. If someone wanrs to do well at the bench, then it stands to reason that you want to grow varieties that are strong contenders.

Tel I think it looks like Garden Friends is going to do you proud whatever the results Mega respect to you and anyone that enters a dahlia in a trial.
