That is good that locals are offering help. They would be able to let you know about other cases and how they are faring. You would not feel isolated.

Community spirit is truly amazing when people are in trouble, I'm glad that the water is receding now, and with the couple of (supposedly) dry days we have been forcasted, that should go a long way to helping. I hope you've not been left with a huge amount of repairs

That is a brilliant offer from your community geranium. I saw the news and it's just heartbreaking to see all the damage.
I hope you get sorted out real soon.

Good to hear it's not got any worse Geranium. I did hear someone on T.V. saying as they have been flooded a few times they take extra precautions now such as keeping all their valuables, insurance paperwork, photos etc. upstairs & that after the last time they had their home rewired with the sockets/powerpoints halfway up the walls which I thought was a very good idea.

Cherry, you're right. News travels fast in a hamlet of 52 houses. I think there were 6 homes flooded, plus some up in the main village. We'd heard that EdF were offering 'muscle' plus pumping out where necessary, so as we'd decided that the dining room carpet had to go, OH rang them yesterday morning, and was told that somone would come in the afternoon. We spent the morning emptying out the sideboard etc, and three hefty men appeared at 1 o'clock! All dressed in hi-vis!They were wonderful. In no time at all, they moved heavy furniture from one end, tore up and rolled the carpet and underlay, moved furniture back to the other end, and got the carpet ready to remove . They whistled up reinforcements and three more men appeared very quickly - they lifted the whole thing and carried it out to the back garden cobbled area. They lifted the piano off its blocks, too. They have no work on the 'C' site, until the final decision about the new Power station has been taken, so the Site Director sent them out to do 'useful' things around the flooded area. They've been pumping out houses, unblocking drains, and generally helping. They will come back if and when we need them, but in the meantime, we have started to get the bare wooden floor dried out. The house is in total chaos, with china and glass on every surface upstairs, and the smaller items of furniture are still up here too. It's a very uncomfortable place to be, but hey! We're here, we're warm, we're safe. 'Battered but not bowed' as they say.

It is good PR for them isn't it - 'hearts & minds' strategy! ;D Nevertheless I expect the help is welcome whevever it comes from, hope your floor dries out soon Geranium.

So do I, Sue! Yes, they're earning themselves 'brownie points', but we we grateful. We couldn't have managed without them. Our electricity bill will be horrific, with fan heaters and dehumidifiers going full blast all day , but it's beginning to pay off. I think we'll be able to save the hall carpet. It seems to be drying out. The floor boards in the dining room are gradually changing colour, too. I don't like the look of the damp creeping up the plaster and the bubbling paint, but I know walls take months to dry out, so re-decorating must wait.

There is a little bit of good news in your post then Geranium, but a long way to go yet, by the sound of it.

Oh, that's dreadful! I'm sure they weren't able to stay put - but I hope they managed to save some of their possessions. Please give them our sympathy if you can, Grindle.
