It's so exciting to read about your tubers beginning to sprout!
Meanwhile at my place my father and my son decided I was due for a little home maintenance, and water blasted the roof yesterday. A fine spray of dirt has therefore descended from on high onto about 100 Dahlia blooms! Nothing a few days won't fix, and some gentle rain has helped a little, but a bit of a garden surprise for sure. It will be well worth it when I have fresh paint on the roof.
In other news, my first two flowers on Oreti Bliss are a bit chimeric with regard to form. Back petals have a slightly incurving cactus shape. Centre petals are not rolled at all, and reflex slightly. It has to do better than that if it wants to avoid the compost heap!

They will end up on the heap....when I grew it I didn't get one decent bloom off 6 plants and they hate the rain.

Quite a few of mine are showing signs of life with the exception of Marston George, Oakwood Goldcrest and Marston Suzanne which are always slow to get going. One which wont need no starting heat is this sport I had come from Marston George last year. Dead spit of its parent which can be seen below. I have been overwintering 6 cuttings from last October to which I have just taken 12 more which will be doner plants for this years true stock. Hopefully not too many of them will revert back Please excuse the dirty bloom, I recall it got a right smacking from a heavy downpour before I could get a nice pic of it. PS; both these came from the same parent plant, which is good to give a better comparison.

Prefer the colour of the sport myself. Good luck with it.

Thanks Everyone, It will be interesting to see how the colour settles down this year and if it holds on to the sport break or whether it reverts back to its parent gene. I know Johnny Digweed would like to have some stock when it becomes available ? With the variance in form and petal formation between miniature decs it would be nice to have this in two vase exhibit with its parent. Perhaps I might be lucky in being able to get this on the show bench this year ie: sport classes. Time will tell. One that I am excited about showing this year is Barbarry Surprise; See pic below:

I like your sport Mark, i hope it does not revert back because that looks like it will have a good future. I noticed one thing Mark. You seem to have come on leaps and bounds with this dahlia lark, since the last time you were a regular on the forum.

Thanks Tel, perhaps it has been the company I keep plus a bit of trial and error over time. The introduction of covers and automatic watering driplines has given me more time to bugger about with the finer points of growing them.

Its a miniature dec, one of Barry Davies aka 'Barbarry'. Look out for it on the show bench there is no other colour like it including Mary's Jomanda. A very eyecatching unusual shade of lilac/purple. Even my full frame camera couldn't catch it in its true light.
Dresses right back to the stem and normally has better centres than those in the pic. Johnny Digweed had two vases of it at the midlands show this year which were both better than my picture which was taken at Harrogate.
I'm sure Dave Spencer made a mention in his 'Whats New' article
Another to watch is Blyton Golden Girl a yellow dec by Les Stoffard, a lovely miniature with dainty well formed petals and cracking centres. Sorry no pic but would knock most into a top hat.
I have it for this year and is another one that has attracted my attention for ones for the future !!

Don't usually grow miniature decs but i've made space for 3 varieties this year, already chosen, so when they fail i'll look out for those 2 next year Got all my tubers in the trays now, all survived the storage, so it's wait and see what comes now.
