Dad came and we inspected the dahlia tubers from Clack's Dahlia Patch USA. We packed and lots of padding. All healthy with nice eyes and shoots. Dad made a swift exit because he wanted to get home and plant his new tubers and I have acquired two more.
They put a bonus tuber in called Colorado Classic I checked on the internet what it looked like and I knew straight away that it was not Dad's cup of tea . Showed Dad and I was right. Think my Dad is a dahlia snob (but then I am to in my own way ), he would probably say that he just know what he likes . I've looked for a good photo of Colorado Classic, good as in 'flattering' and I know that some photos just don't give enough justice to the beauty of the bloom. I am hoping that that is the case for Colorado Classic
and my Weston Spanish Dancer from one of my Dad's tuber.

Fairy Pink Wellies muttered to herself as she was opening the back door. I asked her if she said what I thought that she had said and I was right. She said that it was the 'best time'. I've talked to her about it and she likes going out into the garden playing / helping is the best part of the day. I think part of the attraction is she has more freedom and not a drop of school work. I think it relaxes her from all of the school stress and I know that she likes spending time with me. I've told her a few times that I like gardening with her and that when she is not with me I miss having her around (and she does not talk as much as her sister). I like her enthusiasm for what I've achieved even when it is not a lot.
We were working today in the greenhouse pinching out the extra leaves. She did not like me hurting them (she is a chip off the old block ) but she did her own ones in her pot. She liked doing that.
I don't know if I've done it right on mine but between us both we did have a go.
Fingers crossed and positive purple wellie steps forward.

I don't normally moan about the weather but HH told me tonight that we have heavy snow forecast. I need to work on my dahlia patch and path. My sweet peas need a home and are desperate to climb up something. I'm running out of time, grrr:-/

I feel the same, Moonlight - my sweetpeas are begging to be let out, but it's impossible.

Exhibit A:
Little pile of sweet pea tops.
All I asked Fairy Pink Wellies was to hold the sweet peas but she kept dipping her head in. Funny child.
What I am concerned with is the fact that the sweet peas need to climb onto something because they are splayed out and just need something to climb up. Very frustrating (the weather and the sweet peas, it goes without saying about the daughter )

Managed to get all 3 in to the mini propagator trays. Of the 3 Clearview dahlia tubers none have developed any roots at all and only one has any eyes that look like they might grow. I can't see them myself but Dad knows what he is looking at and if he can tell, then they are there. With it is one of those if you look hard and closely enough you start imaging that you can see something.
The two which I paid for are the ones that have done nothing at all. So 'Come on Arlene' (reminded me of Dexy's Midnight Runners) and Jenny, wake up do something.
I am going to try and grow some of Edwin's chilli seeds with the other pot. I know that I am late starting them off, I thought now that I've got my mini prop, I'll have a go. Never thought that I would be attempting to grow chillies but fingers crossed. I'm going to wait until Fairy Pink Wellies gets here or I seriously will be in the dog house!
Need room on my gardening tables in the lounge, want to get rid of the potatoes, probably could have phrased it better but they don't seem to have done anything since I put them and the Fairy Pink Firs have done nothing at all. Not even an eye.
Sometimes this garden malarkey is so frustrating because it feels like I'm getting no where.
Hay hoe, tiny steps and all that stuff

Have spent ages with Fairy Pink Wellies trying to choose which chilli seed varieties to plant.
I was happy to show her the photos of the different varieties and chat about them but she wanted to make notes and grade them in order of appearance. I love her but....................... it went on for ages. The plan had been for us to plant the seeds while Pirate Yellow Wellies and Daddy went supermarket shopping and then drove to the next town to buy fish (veggie burgers for us veggies) and chips, waited for them to be cooked and then drove back to home. They got back and I had not even got as far as writing the labels out, let alone plant any.
Which is a very good thing considering the fact that I don't have a clue what I am doing. Time to go read up on how to plant chilli seeds.

All labelled up and ready to go!
The two pimentos labels are back to back, hence this 2nd view.
so here is my 'Nursery bench' .
Happy Halloween top left, proporgator x3 Clearview tubers (Jenny, Arlene & Orcha) and my chilli seeds. Lower table left Apricot Begonias, Downham Royal on the right. Weston Spanish Dancer in front left and Colorado Classic on the right.
I've had to move my chittin potatoes because I can't fit them on the table.

Lovely green shoots ;D....you would have had room if you had put the two dahlia "legs" in one tray?

You are right but I thought that I would keep the one from the US apart from my Dad's Weston Spanish Dancer in case there was something nasty wrong with it. We had to pay for a Phytosanitary Certificate which cost $21 ($35 shipping) (the dahlia tubers themselves only cost $25) so there should not be anything wrong with them.
