Really nice to see my seeds back.. ;D ;D ;D Hope you will like growing them , i always did. But still enough in my freezer for some time and this year i got others plans as you know. Didnt you cover the seeds with some thin layer of compost to keep them moist? Guess you better do....
I wanted to put the compost on top but I resisted the temptation until the morning so that Fairy Pink Wellies could see first hand what they looked like in position and then she put the compost on top. I felt guilty enough planting the seeds without her but I thought that she did the compost we both would be happy.
Edwin thank you so much for suggesting, organising and packing up so many seeds. If I asked for 3 seeds, everyone else must have received a crate!
Steve thank you for organising the distribution of the seeds. Did you have any room in your front garden after the postman delivered a skip full of chilli seeds?
Fairy Pink Wellies and I chose Numex Twilight as our 1st choice because it is pretty but we have both agreed that we are going for the colour rather than taste as it is a hotter variety. I was going to do 2 seeds per variety but when I was putting the Fish seeds away I noticed that one was on the table (and I had been fishing them out onto my hand) which expect is probably Fish but rather than not use it added it to the Fish plot. Also went with 3 for the mixed sweet pepper seeds. I like the sound of the Bulgarian Carrot and if we can use Piementos on pizza that would be good so I did 2 of each variety because I could not decide which to do. I was very intrigued why 1 of the packets had green seeds and the rest were yellow.

You are right but I thought that I would keep the one from the US apart from my Dad's Weston Spanish Dancer in case there was something nasty wrong with it. We had to pay for a Phytosanitary Certificate which cost $21 ($35 shipping) (the dahlia tubers themselves only cost $25) so there should not be anything wrong with them.<gulp>....erm....I see.......thats a lot of money to fork out........ Doesn't make sense what I typed, shows that I could not finish the post in one sitting. (Family distractions and competition for my laptop etc.)
All I was trying to say was: even though we paid for the certificate doesn't mean that I trust it, better safe than sorry. The Phytosanitary Certificate is a lot of money so it is a case of fingers crossed that the dahlias are worth it. Especially my two. Strange isn't it, I actually ordered 2 and I've ended up with 2 extra bonus tubers.

Dad was telling me yesterday about how he put a vase in with blooms from just one individual plant, did well and got a 1st. I've been searching through my picture folders because I am looking for a photo that I can use for a gift for my Mum and Dad's Wedding Anniversary and I found it. It is a photo taken by my sister.
Looking forward to growing some myself. Maybe my tuber was that plant. Wouldn't that be wonderful.
My 3 Clearview dahlias that are in their intensive care isolation units (aka the propagator mini trays) do seem to be looking a tiny bit more eye like (but then again it could just be another bit of Vermiculite that they packed them in, that I just didn't brush off).
Patient Fingers crossed and Positive thoughts and hopefully tiny steps forward.

Been shopping. Bought some large pots, that I am hoping my Dad will say will be ok for the dahlias. I really wanted to put 1 pot either side of our front door with Downham Royal planted.
Found Jute growing bags so bought 1 Salad and 1 Vegetable Growing bag each and I've told the girls that they are theirs alone. They can grow other things in the garden and help me but the jute bags are theirs exclusively. They already have their potato buckets, really need to get them planted soon and I want to get mine on the way as well. Show or not the girls have already chosen things that they want to grow but for the show itself, there is the potato challenge in the Summer show, biggest sunflower head and a vegetable classes in the Autumn show.
I bought some small pots for me to sow my trailing sweet peas. I wanted to do that with Pirate Yellow Wellies today because only 4 of her 6 seeds grew. She is also very good at spotting when things have grown or changed. Not sure if I will be able to wait until after school. Also bought them some children size gardening gloves. Fairy Pink Wellies is happy because one of the pairs are pink.
Tiny steps and hopefully a lot of fun with the girls.

All the way to school Pirate Yellow Wellies was telling me what she was going to plant, her cabbages which we had already picked as her vegetable choice ages ago when we bought the seeds. She wants to grow the lettuce seeds that she won at school a couple of weeks ago. "Have we got any beetroot Mummy?" "and tomatoes....?" "Can I grow some flowers?" Yes. yes, yes. As they both have 2 each, it is all going to be up to them.
Fairy Pink Wellies was having a 'don't like Monday morning school day' start of the day and was less chatty. She can tell me her choices and ideas while her sister having her dance lessons this evening. She'll have made her own plans by then I'm sure.

Here is Downham Royal not looking lush and healthy.
It is trying to grow shoots and I am happy about that but I really not happy about the way that they were packaged.
So I have just emailed the company (please don't ask who) and basically said: "Potentially they could have been the best tubers in the world but if they are scrunched up in a brown paper bag, squashed until the paper bag was small enough to fit inside the box, they are going to get broken."
I should have done more photos and emailed them straight away but I was so excited to receive my first dahlias. Anyway live and learn. Never know might get a reply.

Last 3 my Clearview tubers. Jenny, Arlene & Orcha.
My Arlene tuber is a lot longer than the others and very difficult to angle it in because what look like eyes were up against the edge of the propagator tray and lid, so I gently checked for roots (none) and lifted it up and tried to put it in at a different angle, sticking up in the air more, to give any eyes a chance of beginning to develop any shoots. The other 2 fitted but I've changed their positions so that what looks like eyes are facing upwards or sideways rather than upside down where I can't tell if it has grown or if it is a shadow.
Well that was my theory, I am hoping that by having these pictures, I will be able to compare if they are actually beginning to grow or just wishful thinking on my part.
