I'm not disappointed Lou I'm very proud. I'm a baby in this big bad world of dahlias. I'm just glad that I've managed to grow any. If your a baby, I am passed it then.

I've not been round my Mum and Dad's for a couple of weeks. He has planted a row of seedlings along the side of the front path. Apparently it looks very impressive with lots of different types of dahlias and lots of different colours.
Hope those caterpillars don't eat my seed heads. I really want to see what I would get if I am limiting myself to a couple of varieties. Wonder if I would get a big mix to. I feel a tad guilty because the dahlias haven't finished flowering and yet I'm looking forward to seeing their seedling babies.

Haven't mentioned that I bought a box of oasis which arrived on the day of the show, so I decided not to use it as I've not had a chance to practice and think things through.

I am down to my last two blocks, will have to buy a box next year, when I go renew my membership at a local horticultural society. Works out a little less expensive there.

Dad has advised not bothering any more with the petal plucking as he thinks that they probably won't have enough time to mature (only about 4 weeks left). Bit disappointed actually.

My Weston Pirate is looking gorgeous from the window and up close even more so. Have Eastwood Moonlight poking out in the background. My 2 Eastwood Moonlight blooms are a bit past it. Eastwood Moonlight never managed to fully catch up. I had some spaces and Dad offered to bring a few to fill in the spaces. It was a work night and I had to go down to the greenhouse to see what he had given me. Couldn't believe that I'd been given a Moonlight. Bounded back up to the house with a big grin on my face and tears in my eyes. Always a tad over emotional me. Downham Royal is one thing that I had searched online to buy but an Eastwood Moonlight. Gosh what a responsibility. Of the others well as I've said before, I think Peach Delight is beautiful but has come off worse with the weather and the stems have snapped. Stalleen Condessa is just too tall, if I can't see the top of the dahlia then there isn't any point me growing. Especially as it has been the worse variety for being caterpillar bait. Ruskin Bride was almost as bad. Clearview Arlene won't bother with next year but Red Balloon is a smashing deep red. Mine had lovely strong stems. Dad's going to give it another year.
I think that I am drawn to the deep purples and reds.

I haven't done a lot of updates recently been ultra busy at home and more than a tad stressful.
Anyway won't bore with the details...
We had thunder and lightening storms last night with lots of rain. Very windy today, lots of strong gusts. Hay Hoe.
Been down and had a look at the dahlias. Poor things. In theory I should have some more Downham Royal seeds but I don't rate my chances of my Pirates. Seed heads looking seriously worse for wear. I think I have 3 or 4 Eastwood Moonlight heads and possibly a cheeky Spanish Dancer which keeps leaning into my Eastwood Moonlight, like it is trying to blend in with the Moonlight seed heads and get picked to.
Feeling very guilty about my Happy Halloween because they have been bright eyed and bushy tailed all summer and are struggling on even now. They have an abundance of seed heads but I don't want any or their tubers.
I don't think that I am really cut out to be a proper dahlia grower (I know what I mean by 'proper' I'm not dissing regular garden dahlias, I just don't want to grow any).
It really upsets me seeing caterpillars eat my dahlias but then I want the butterflies and I panicked when I walked through a spider web, covered with cocooned flies and fly left overs.
I think I'm too much of a wuss.
(nb I think the spider thing happened when I was a child helping move bales of hay and a large spider ran across my face).

I've got another 6 Downham Royal seeds but I haven't had any Eastwood Moonlight. I don't think I am going to have any Pirates but don't tell anyone but I did collect a few Spanish Dancers...
My Dad has asked my Mum if he can order some more dahlias from the US for his Christmas present. So I'm going to go online Window shopping at some point.
