I've got another 6 Downham Royal seeds but I haven't had any Eastwood Moonlight. I don't think I am going to have any Pirates but don't tell anyone but I did collect a few Spanish Dancers...
My Dad has asked my Mum if he can order some more dahlias from the US for his Christmas present. So I'm going to go online Window shopping at some point. I have never had any seeds from Eastwood, I wonder if it is sterile. There was two seedlings in the two NDS shows from Clearview Dahlias. Clearview Sundance a Yellow, Medium Semi/Cactus and Clearview Daniel, a Yellow ball. Looking at the pics in the Garden News, I like Clearview Daniel.

Clearview Sundance a Yellow, Medium Semi/Cactus and Clearview Daniel, a Yellow ball. Looking at the pics in the Garden News, I like Clearview Daniel. No Eastwood Moonlight isn't sterile my Dad's got seedlings from it this year and has collected more seeds for next year. Just rung my Dad to double check, I was sure that he had Eastwood Moonlight seedlings this year. I would love it if he got another Moonlight that he was happy with one day. He's very picky with his seedlings bit of a perfectionist all round really.
Some of my Dad's Clearview dahlias are going to the compost heap. He is going to keep Clearview Sundance and give it another year. This years ones looked really good from the side view but the centre was too big from the front. Wonder if he would like a Eastwood Moonlight / Sundance cross. Like I said he is really picky.
He grew Clearview David and Clearview Debbie this year which were ok. They've been granted an extra year but he didn't want Clearview Daniel because it is yellow and doesn't want to have any yellow ball seedlings. So all his non-yellow ball dahlias are together well away from the others and he also has a group of red dahlias away from others.
Of this years seedlings (seeds grown from the non red dahlias) he has pretty much all different types of dahlias but not singles which he is very happy about because he doesn't like singles. Some of his seedlings are going to get another year with more space to grow. Mum and I have put in requests for the ones that we like but Dad being Dad will only pick the ones that he thinks might be good enough in the future.
I think that part of the reason why I really, really want these seeds to grow is because it's what my Dad did / does. Dahlias are so much more than a beautiful flower. There is so much more to dahlias than the shows. I understand now that the naive excitement, stress and worry over getting a tuber to grow or the stress of taking a cutting and the hope that it will grow is going to nothing in comparison to how it will be in my attempt to get any of these seeds to grow.
Fingers crossed for us both 'eh Tel?

Been down to my dahlias and they are looking a bit sad now but there are some that are still budding. Picked some seed heads, no luck with the Pirates but I have picked 1 Weston Spanish Dancer head which had to quite a few seeds in it. I am going to do battle with my Mary's Jomanda, as somehow or other I need to get past it to get to my Eastwood Moonlight. I would love it if I could get just 1 seed.
Oh well time to go cleanse my scissors.

Got it now ML. Thanks for putting that link up. I did a very similar thing a couple of years back with one of those polythene mini greenhouses. I just used one tealight and one pot so it probably wasn't as efficient as in the video but the seeds all germinated so maybe it was warm enough after all.

Nice one Moonlight, fingers crossed you have a nice seedling from Eastwood. Wouldn't that be a dream come true?
I've got some Staleen Condessa seeds that I am going to give to my Dad. Don't want anything I can't reach.
When I can get to it I am going to try and search for my Peach Delight. Beautiful dahlia but I just wasn't lucky with it. Dad searched around my Pirate seed head pieces and found 5 seeds. I hadn't thrown them because just in case. Did the right thing there.
I've got hardly any space so I've got to be really picky at what I can realistically grow.
