Guy from Western Power called round today. He reckons the wisteria which has climbed up the supporting cable for the pole will have to go. I am not able to keep it in check as there are dire warnings on the pole not to touch.....danger of death Shame really as it has been there for years but the flowere were a bit wishy washy anyway so no great loss. Mind you the birds used it a lot prior to using the seed dispensers.

that's a shame SP, but for the sake of your electricity, I guess it's the right thing to do, you can always plant a better one elsewhere

It's never nice removing plants, but it does sound vital that your wisteria should go.

The electricity surveyors have checked my pole and found it wanting, so they will eventually bring in a machine to fell it and replace. It is upsetting because I have trained Dorothy Perkins up this to hide it. They did not really mind that in my case, but I do have a lot of clearing to do.

That's the thing about nature; something that is upright will always get something to climb up it, even if it is only bindweed.

I would cut it back a wee bit and when they have gone let it go up again. I don't think it is doing a lot of harm. I must have a look at my rose again. The situation is very similar to yours and the electrical surveyors were not worried about anything climbing on it. The pole just needs replacing. I think I have nasty signs on my pole too.

Thats a shame it has to go, it's a lovely mature plant. there used to be a hedge along the burn here but the hydroboard hacked it all out to get into the electricity lines.
