The damson tree has got to go , it is suckering all over the place up to a meter from the tree and the fruit is never healthy anyway.
What to put in it`s place ? and where to buy for quality ? I`d like a small plumb or would it have the same suckering problem ?
Also what are the best apples for up here in the north, my golden delicious just isn`t doing a good job .
Any ideas or good sites to check out would be welcome

Plums are notorious for suckering however I seem to remember Victoria plums doing well in a garden just outside Glasgow. I think us schoolkids got most of them though ;D If it has to be small, grow it as a cordon or espalier. more work but just as good.

You're right Sweetpea. Victoria is a good "doer". I highly recommend James Grieve as an apple suitable for Scotland and Ireland and it is my favourite out of my 20 apple trees here. I am fond of Queen Cox, but it may not suit your cool climate as well as here.

I have a dual apple tree cherry It was supposed to be james grieve and golden delicious, I thing I remember two types of apple on the tree when it was young but they were definetely all the same in recent years, no james grieves.
