Well - some days our post doesn't arrive before 2 anyway, so am I bovvered? I agree about the cost of postage, though. It's appalling!

It's the whole principle though, Geranium. This company need good stiff competition

if nobody had ever bought a 1st class stamp in the first place the two tier system would never have got off the ground but no, folks thought they were going to get a speedier service by using 'First class' post. What really happened was that 2nd class mail was delayed and the so called first class was just the same old service with a different name. The British people are so gullible IMHO. Likewise when the cost of diesel goes up, why is it left to the truckers to protest when it actually affects EVERYONE as every single commodity in this country has to travel by road at some stage? I often feel that we are far too apathetic in this country. Did we get a say in joining the common market? No we didn't. I am British or Scottish if you like but will NEVER be a European. I could go on but what's the point? I am apathetic too

Do you feel better now Louise I do sympathise with you about postage stamps. I bet it won't be long before they offer us a new Penny Black......The 100 Penny Black As for Europe, well I think you all know my feelings on that one, but I seem to remember we had a vote for the 'Common Market'. What we didn't vote for is the EU. You know the one Tony B promised us. What worries me about the Post Office is that if it's privatised, people who live in the sticks like me won't get an affordable delivery if any.

I like our Royal Mail. The price is no higher than in most countries and the service generally is better than most. As an example I moved about 8 years ago (about 10 miles ) and last year I got a Christmas card addressed to my old abode. It wasn't re directed but was delivered the next day. How can anyone complain at that. If the Royal Mail is sold off, and probably to a foreign Company, I bet the story would be different.

The Royal Mail is a shadow of its former self. Yes it is probably better than most others but it has gone downhill rapidly in recent years. I worked in it for long enough and am a post office pensioner so I feel I have a better knowledge of this than your average man in the street. Some of the things I have seen you wouldn't believe but also certain members of the public are so stupid when it comes to mailing items in the post and then they wonder what went wrong. The speediest ever mail delivery was when I was emptying a box one Sunday (remember them, Sunday collections?) when I noticed a small packet addressed to an address which was actually across the pavement from the box, so I walked over and delivered it. One of the slowest I can remember being involved in was when we were installing a new machine and when the old one was moved there was some mail underneath it. One letter dated back to the 'fifties which was forwarded on to the address. Bet the service got some stick from the recipient
