Came across this lovely wall painting a couple of weeks ago & grabbed a quick photo today. It's been there just over a year although we'd never seen it before as it's not a road we go down often in the Northern Quarter of Manchester city centre. Looked it up online & it's by an artist from a group called 'Fauna-graphic' done with spray cans, it was sponsored by Converse the sportswear company & apparently it may be going to be removed & there is a campaign to save it. It really brightens up a horrible scarred wall, very clever!

I'm not sure why it might be removed, O.H. saw something about that on the internet but I haven't, it might be because it advertises the brand of the sponsors Converse, their symbol is the star on it. If I were the council or building's owners though I'd be campaigning to keep it not get rid of it. The artist is a young woman from Sheffield who has done quite a few of these type of paintings of birds & nature on sites all over Britain & I think abroad too, she's a respected graphic artist, I'd like to see more murals by her around town!

Generally I regard these as graffiti and to be honest most are rubbish but now and then there are some such as this which can be considered works of art and if it is not offending anyone I see no valid reason to remove it. I remember a wall alongside a music shop in Tolworth Surrey which had a black and white mix of very well known pop stars singers etc. which were instantly recognisable despite being done in a stylised form. Elvis, Gene Simmons of Kiss and Jimi Hendrix to name but 3. I don't know if it is still there but it was also a work of art.

Have you heard of Banksy? He does amazing graffiti pictures in Bristol. They're counted as works of art.
