The Kale looks very showy in the kitchen garden. The view from the magnificent steps is formal and fabulous.

Thought I'd add a couple of new images. The first is from The Gardener's Chronicle 1898, and the second is a phot of the same location take recently!!! What great pictures Bists, i love seeing pictures like that!

My favourite part of the Kitchen Garden, last Summer. A mix plants including Red Orache, Sunflower Wahooh and Nero de Toscana Kale. It is just lovely, really lovely stunning.

Well it's that time of year again!!! ;D ;D ;D Seed sowing is the order of the day (or should that be days??) We've had to set off some of the seeds about a month early, as the owners are having an event in May, and we need the main lawns, and Borders to look like it is High Summer!!! The Kitchen Garden is all clear at last - one bed dug, only another 7 to go, thank goodness the weather appears to be on our side at the moment. The Scented Terrace is also being cleared at the moment, unfortunately we've been struck with seriuos Box blight, so we've removed all 36 of the gorgeous Box balls. We hope that this will slow the spread, as if it reaches the Knot Garden we'll have a big problem - then again, am itching to redesign the Knot Garden.....so every Cloud... Have also just finished digging the 150ft new Border, so am cream crackered!!

I love your posts Bists. That is a lot of pressure to have the gardens looking wonderful in May, but I don't doubt you will be able to deliver.

Thanks Cherry - glad of your vote of confidence Usually would be a nice challenge, but I'm growing about 80% of the new 150ft border from seed & cuttings, so space is going to be a real premium this year. Am already full in the small greenhouse, and have now filled the Glasshouse with trestle tables, that are bending under the weight of fuchsias and dahlias

What an amazing sight to see all those trays of seeds! I don't envy you the task of pricking all the babies out.
