Thought i'd try to do a vaguely chronological dairy of the year at Thornbridge Hall. But felt the need to remind myself that it wont be winter forever...and the quagmire may dry out!! This week have started preparing the new soft fruit area, and started wondering if the bottom terrace will ever be finished Then again as we've got it listed in the NGS as a new area of the garden...it will have to be!!!

Your current projects would be very interesting Bists. This garden is just fabulous. It must be all due to you and two others.

You say that you're better with a trowel than a mouse, well I recon you're pretty good with a camera too. I like the one of the yorkstone path. The Hall looks as interesting as it's gardens. What a lovely environment to work in.

Well, so much for me updating this blog more regularly!!! Busy, busy, busy as normal! This is the newly dug fruit cage. The cage is made of tubular aluminium, and measures 40ft x 15ft. The outer beds (mulched with spent hops) are planted with Timperley Early Rhubarb. The cage will contain Raspberries (Tulameen, Glen Moy and Malling Jewel) and Strawberries (Cambridge Favourite, Red Gauntlet and Marshmello) We're very lucky at Thornbridge to have a large working greenhouse...never seems large enough for the thousands of plants that we raise each year!! A view of the soon to be Scented Flower Terrace, weather permitting we'll start putting in the metal edging in the next 2 weeks - we've brought in 130 ton of topsoil, as the site was a Tennis Court years ago, and is compacted shale and heavy clay. At the moment we are frantically pressure washing and mulching the borders, so that we can get on the new terrace as soon as possible. Will post more next week.

That is fantastic, I wish this laptop could do smells, I look forward to seeing more. I feel my efforts are a little small and insignificant now, from little acorns grows the mighty oak
