My husband's parents had a Magnolia bought for them to celebrate their wedding anniversary. When we sold his parents house, I realised that I didn't want to loose that Magnolia and came home with lots of leaves and bits which subsequently rotted. We should have been more organised and thought about it. We visited his lovely old neighbours in the summer and the Magnolia is still there as beautiful as ever.
We don't like either of the trees that we have here and what we would like to do is get the tree at the front cut down and plant a Magnolia instead. Has anyone ever taken a cutting of a Magnolia that grew? When would the right time of the year to start trying. If anyone could it would be his old neighbours (obviously we would ask the people that live in that house.) and we know that would understand.
Also when is the best time of the year to plant a Magnolia?

You can grow those plants in container at the starting stage, you can cut those plants without any hesitation. I have some experience with this magnolia plants.

I was about to ask the same question but re-read the thread:
Steve's link to RHS advice on planting.......We had the tree in our front garden cut down after the storm and have missed it ever since.
