Hey Merlin. I quite like it. Believe it or not it is coming here with a vengeance. However, I don't mind what you have. It is our forum.

There was a topic on Radio 4 the other day. All about email language. it was amusing and also interesting to see how it's affected our language. The ones that annoyed people most was 'Hey' and 'BN' which, believe it or not means Bye for Now Hello is still popular but apparently that too is often left out and the letter begins with just the recipient's name.

Interesting, Ron, but I wouldn't want to degenerate into 'text' speak, would you? I suppose it's my teacher blood. I even have to edit any typos I make if I spot them in time.

I find it difficult to read as well, and I've already been to Specsavers (frequently!). ;D

I also much prefer beginning an email and so on with an Hello rather than Hi. Nice to see others have a thing for language and I can come out of the 'Dad youre so last year' closet Regards, Paul

I suppose that it's because proboards are American - but Merlin's right - I'd prefer to have a 'hallo' if it were possible, too.

'Hey' isn't offensive, it reminds me of Jennifer Aniston and that can't be bad. It's just that I like English. When I left school I couldn't read nore write properly. My first job was on the local Newspaper. To use the modern vernacular, it was 'a learning curve' I like 'period' drama even if it's a bit sloppy because of the way they speak and the words they chose. It makes me cringe to hear modern American slang, especially from a certain quarter, which sadly is influencing us
