Over the last week I have sealed 2 new teak garden chairs which I bought at Sandringham Flower Show. They each took 2 hours, so they were done on different days. Being in the right mood for preserving the outdoor furniture, I oiled the table and chairs with a cloth. This means thinking how to tip the large table over for doing the underside. I felt quite clever, because I thought it through so that it did not require strength. This whole job took 2 hours also and the furniture had never been so dry as we have had no rain to speak of for weeks. Now I feel pleased in some ways, because there was some drizzle today and last night.

That sounds like a timely job well done Cherry! 😊 I've done a couple of hours in the garden cutting back a buddleia & pulling/digging out some of the champion & loosestrife plants which have gone over near the pond.

More clearing out behind the compost bins. Filled 5 bags with kindling size logs for neighbour. Neither of us has room to store them so a bit of a problem there. Also run out of compost bags to put the rest of them in. The timber from the old Summer House has been moved into the garage. Probably will have to saw that up for firewood eventually. At least the leaves and very small twigs went through the shredder so can be added to the compost heap. Hard, dirty work too.

Is this some kind of game you've invented??? I've certainly heard of "Butcher's dog" & that's what came to mind when I first read your post! But then I started to search for it on line & forgot about it!
There are links on the page to other common expressions we use as well! Worth having a look if anyone's interested!
The Rev. William Spooner was notorious for mixing up words like that, hence that kind of phrase is now referred to as a 'spoonerism'. I often do it for comic effect.
Now that you mention him, I've heard of him & his changing words! I've also heard of "spoonerism".

Started my least favourite daily task now ....sweeping up acorns from our 3 patios, such a lethal combination as they can send you skidding when stepped on as I have discovered countless times unfortunately. Seed harvesting as well.

There are now 15 bags of kindling size logs. Really have run out of space to store them. Bit of a problem for us if nice for neighbour as it will keep him warm for a reasonable length of time. Still got about 9 foot more to clear too. There are a lot of conifer stumps which will have to be taken to the Recycling place as they are too difficult to cut up into fire place size pieces. The green waste bin is full too, so not sure what to do with the twiggy stuff. May tip that too,

I only did the weekly feeding of the plants on the balcony & inside the flat. Not done any deadheading of the Morning Glories in a couple of days so I must get round to doing that tomorrow or the day after or ...

Thanks balc2....so far so good . We have our eldest staying with us at the moment which is a great reassurance to us both. Today he bought his Dad one of those Smart Watches that monitor all your vital signs. Son and I will both get alerts should things go downhill.

We had about 100 feet long Leylandii hedge which we removed. This stuff is the 5 years old now dried up bits of those trees. It needs to be well dried or the resin can block the chimney if burned fresh. Some of the wood is from broken branches from the Beech trees which line one side of the garden. We also had a couple of tall Holly trees right in the middle of the plot which were leaning badly and had to be removed.

Despite today's damp forecast, I had to give the whole garden a thorough watering yesterday as plants were sporting a ' droopy ' look. Today's weather has been long awaited.
