I`m replacing the polycarbonate on the far side of the greenhouse roof ( if you recall the company sent replacements when it started disintegrating after only 2 years ) . bit of a waste of time really as the sides front and back are yellow and will need replacing next year. Post a pic once it's built Tel

Well done, Ladybird. Glad to hear it's finished for the moment. I didn't do anything in the garden yesterday as we were at the NGS lunch. It was a break from digging!

I actually made a start on the garden thismorning ;D mainly cutting back dead clematis stems and the climbing roses...stuff I could do from the path; the ground is stll extremely wet and we are having heavy morning frosts atm. At least the light levels ar good for the seedlings in the greenhouse. Did a temporary pot up job on two patio Victoria Plum trees...

I painted the beehive composter in the back garden, while I was doing it one of the neighbourhood pussycats was watching me & almost jumped on top of the bit I was painting until I shouted 'don't, you'll get paint on your paws!' - as though she could understand me! Cats like to sit on the top of it watching the birds! I also walked down to Lidl, was tempted with but didn't buy some bare root roses they had on offer at £2.79 each or 2 for £5, they looked very healthy but the names were either Dutch or German & I hadn't heard of them. Tesco next door to them had some nice fruit trees on offer for £7 each as well, wish I had room for them.

Pruned my Mahonia 'Charity' which was spreading out in all directions and smothering the nearby berberis. Cut back a few more perennials and did some weeding.

I carried on digging and cleared up small roots and debris. Abi came and took out more of the Lamium, then she sawed off more of the dead rose on the fence - there's not much left of it now. I'm going to plant a new one. I went back out in the afternoon, knelt in the hole where the pear tree roots are, and dug along and round each one with a trowel, so that OH could use his chainsaw to cut them as far back as possible. It blunted the chainsaw and his sharpening file, so he couldn't finish the job. This is one of the roots in the hole after I exposed it, and OH had started to cut it. You can see how large they are. The diameter is similar to the pear tree trunk! Then I cut back the brambles along the fence again as they're exposed now, and look awful. I was surprised and pleased to find that the old stump from a dead Ceanothus repens has now rotted, and it came away easily. I looked critically at a Cistus x purpureus that's past its sell by date and decided it has to go - which will create even more space for new planting in that area. We'll be collecting the two trees on order next week, and I can order the other shrubs now.

I looked at that photo Geranium & thought it was someone's leg sticking out! ;D Haven't done much in the garden today except put another coat of paint on the beehive bin.

Sowed onions 'Brunswick' and 'Centro' into 40-cell trays, sowed a small pot of 'Greyhound' cabbage, and a larger pot of 'White Lisbon' spring onions.
