My potatoes are coming along nicely - They certainly are, peony
Mine should be as far as yours, but the cold has held them back by a couple of weeks. It's 1250 feet above sea level here, and that can be a problem some Springs.

One of my Picasso has finally put in an appearance. Was beginning to wonder if I had just imagined planting them. Probably been hiding from all the election hype.

I just got my last spuds in about 2 weeks ago, nothing above soil level yet but with rain, snow, hail etc i don't blame them. I'm hoping to get a good crop off Druid seeing as no one supplies it any more i have to save my own seeds spuds.

Is it a heritage potato variety? What does it cook like?
Dad grew Pentland Beauty in the 60's and 70's and an uncle had suggested growing it. It had been very successfully grown on Romney Marsh. Dell seems to have lasted, but Beauty grew too big for commercial usage, I think. Tasted lovely .... and there is nothing wrong with having half a large baked potato, as the filling behaves better, too

I used to grow Pentland Hawk. Now that was a really big potato and delicious too. I grew this in Scotland. Apparently, they named them alphabetically, hence Beauty was second, Dell was fourth, and your favourite was eighth to be issued.
As growers aren't allowed to used family names any more, it's less easy for the home gardener to find out about their history, without resorting to internet searches. Interference from Strasbourg, as usual.

Have dragged some compost bags into the garage to warm them up and will have to work in there over the weekend, to plant some in the potato bags, if it won't stop raining..... lawn cutting will have to happen when it is dry enough.

I did not know they were in alphabetical order dianthus. Now I will have to lose something from my brain to make room for this new information.
