jellibeans, it's good to know you will be getting your op very soon! I knowof2 or 3 ladies at my old church that had hip replacement surgery &were walking almost normally & pain free a few months afterwards. Hope you will also be pain free after your op!

jellibeans Belated birthday wishes ! and good luck with your operation. I didn't know of these things until now, I'm not very good at keeping up with forums these days. I can understand you not taking medication, I am the same and would rather soldier on with the pain there, albeit at a slower pace. I have fallen several times recently because of my knees, they get so painful they just give way sometimes, and down I go. I'm sure you'll be much better after the treatment.

Thank you Eli, I've had a fabulous weekend having our brood down to stay. Eldest is staying on for a few more days to help paint the window frames. Sorry to hear of your pain, would you not consider a replacement ? I'm still a bit wary and worried about going for one myself. As it's not until January I'm doing some research into the pro's and con's . I know people that it's worked out really well for and definitely changed their lives for the better. My brother has had most of his major joints replaced several time over starting when he was just 18.. he's now completely disabled and confined to a wheelchair...but not through any fault of his or his medical team , he just had very severe RA from adolescence. Another family member has had both knees replaced and still can't walk any distance at all and suffers badly from extremely swollen legs...to be utterly honest I think they didn't do the necessary follow up work after their surgery to strengthen their joints and getting moving again. So I want to do a bit more reading up on every aspect of having the procedure done before I can definitely agree to it. I do realise that to gain maximum benefits I must be prepared to do all that the Physiotherapist advises to help ensure I reap the rewards.

Congratulations lesley !
Thank you jellibeans, yes it is important to follow up any treatment. A friend of mine has just had a hip replacement and goes regularly to see a physiotherapist and does all the exercises recommended, and she is now mobile again. I hope all goes well for you because you don't want to live the rest of your life in that pain.
I don't know about a knee replacement for myself, I'm managing at the moment, and I'm not a person to give in and feel self pitty. I use an old broom to help me walk down the garden and when I'm out I take my time and use a trolley in a supermarket etc.
Good morning everyone
