I've watched a few clips online have noticed that people have been using the same blade to cut more than one plant. I remember my Dad using lots of blades. He would take a cutting with a blade, sterilise it by boiling, ready for next time and use a different blade for the next plant.
Do people still sterilise blades or is it a quick wipe and then on to the next plant? Just wondered how times have changed.

I use Stanley knife blades, one per tuber then it is placed in a small container with diluted jeyes fluid. The smell lasts for hours even after washing my hands. ;D

Have you got some of the 'old' Jeyes left, then, Tel? The EU banned the main ingredient and the new stuff doesn't have the same distinctive aroma!

Yes Geranium, a large container of it, the amount I use in a season for dahlias is so little, it will outlast me. ;D

I use the 'Craft Knife blades' very sharp and tapered to a fine point. Good for fuchsias and sweetpeas as well as dahlias. For sterilising I use a pinch of permanganate of potash diluted in a small receptacle, a small jar is fine, and dip the blade in after every plant. No need to sterilise between cuttings off the same plant. Cheap, simple and effective.

I use metholated spirit. Cheap and a small 1ltr bottle lasts for ever. For a number of years I have been using a scapel knife as pictured in the image below. Dead easy to change the blade and they stay sharp for a good while.
