What a carry on I've had today (well OH did really ). I had a small package of plug plants to send to a friend, but when OH took it to the post office it was going to cost nearly £7 to send. Apparently there are new postal rates effective from today and my small package was being classed as a large parcel. If the package was about 1 - 2" smaller it would have gone at a lower rate. Be warned PS: I've made the box smaller by cutting a couple of inches off it. I'll let you know how much that one costs tomorrow...

I heard there were some changes afoot lou they are just going to do them selves out of business if postage is to high. Me thinks i might not be getting so much on ebay if large items are expensive to post

My husband has a mindset which makes him think all postage is high, even when it isn't. This could tip him over to something worse if it gets dearer.

After cutting a lump off the box.....and hiding the resultant "mess" with brown paper....OH took the parcel back to the post office this afternoon. The parcel ended up as a "cube" and cost £3 to send.....half the price it was thismorning The poor postmaster has been tearing her hair out today with the changes..... .....I'd better e-mail my friend and warn her of the messy bundle she is to receive

Oh dear, Lou. I've got several plants waiting to be sent! I don't like the sound of this at all.

Just make the package as small as you can Geranium. I had thought we could have got a leaflet outlining the new charges, but no there isn't one. I'm going to see if there is some info on the "snail mail" site...

It puts me off sending for anything such as clothes which you might have to return if they don't fit as in lots of cases you have to pay the cost of the return! I bet all the mail order plant companies etc. will be putting their delivery costs up as well.

Every time when I send a packet I get asked if there is any value. The postage is always higher than the value of the contents

I looked on the website and it isn't very specific about what size is small and what's medium. Why can't they stick to weight?

Cos they can get more money out of us by using size as a guideline
