About 40 years ago, my (late) father planted Roses of Sharon Seeds.
In 2012, I had asked our landscape man about what I assumed was moss, mold or something else. He told me it was nothing to be concerned about.
In 2012,Our landscape company took out the 5 living and flowering Roses of Sharon and re-planted them in a different location. I noticed their way of taking them out and re-planting. I tried improving upon their work, because they had done such a great job. 2013, I did more work on the Roses Of Sharon. It appears that leaves are growing. I do not see any flower buds. Is it possible our 5 trees are deceased?
I spent a lot of time doing internet searches.I was unable to obtain an answer to my posted question.

Hi, if as you say the leaves are growing, they are certainly not deceased. I do not grow Rose of Sharon, but maybe like a lot of things, they may need to settle down again. They may not flower this year, they should next year.

There are more than one plants called, 'Rose of Sharon. if yours is the yellow flowered one hypericum then I wouldn't worry. They are tough as old boots. If on the other hand your rose of sharon is a hibiscus then it is more than likely that is just delayed as so many other plants are this year. my hibiscus is barely in bud atm so it is just patience that is required.

Assuming as you refer to 'tree' then it is the Hibiscus, whereabouts are you? they are not a really hardy plant here in the UK and will suffer in winter depending on location, If they usually survive ok where you are and it is sprouting leaves then it should be ok, like Tel suggests it has perhaps been knocked back a bit ....and welcome to the forums

I would like to say "thank you," to those who have replied to my question. My Hibiscus syriacus and I live in MA. Leaves continue growing. I have cut off and removed some of the bad or rotted stuff. I think what remains on the tree part is moss(or something else). Please continue advising and assisting. My other outdoor bushes and flowering plants are growing. I do not know if I was successful at planting my Morning Glory seeds.

What sort of moss is it? Is it normal for your area? A photo would be useful, privat.

I was going back there to put the lights back on ;D ;D Growing conditions in Massachusetts must be very different from Britain, but it's good to get an idea of how plants grow in different countries

The landscape guy looked at the roses of Sharon. So far they look like they are coming along. I plan on using that Moss spray.
