We seem to be having a mini boom of moths in our garden recently. I've noticed quite a few this last week or so when I've been looking out for the bats, probably why the bats like to do a few circuits of our garden. Yesterday & today though there have been 2 moths out in the daylight sitting on the door & window frames. I think one or possibly both are types of Garden Carpet moths, quite pretty. I took a couple of photos & yes the windows & frames are a bit grubby & complete with the remains of one of my 'pet' spiders which I clean around but I haven't got around to cleaning the windows since the gasmen went & the dust & muck from them got everywhere! ;D

If the windows were cleaned, the moths would not like it Sue. I love the pet spider reference. I am very fond of my spiders and have trouble cleaning them out. Even when I put them out the window I know they won't live in the cold.
I don't see a lot of moths and yours are pretty.

The dead spider is on the outside of the front window Cherry, I clean around them when they're in the corner like that & I usually have one or two who live amongst the pots of plants on the kitchen window ledge which I clean around as they catch the fungus gnats etc. I had one spider who seemed to live in the kitchen window for a year or two getting bigger & bigger!

Not to embarrass Sue, there is way to get rid of dead spider webs and its eggs etc., Its better try to drag out each and every corner of your home with the help of vacuum cleaner. Keep clean out of muddle around your house and outside too. Because not only spiders, moths, every kind of flies use to stay in concealing places. If you keep the areas around your home and inside free of muddle, it leaves less places for spiders to hide. Clean by this way regularly. Thank you in advance

Welcome to the forums Phiferindia. Sue is one of our wildlife experts and if she cleans this thoroughly, she will destroy a lot of it and possibly suffer from boredom. I had family staying last week and my daughter-in-law shocked me by saying she destroyed the spiders by flushing them in the toilet. There could have been an excess of them because the family stayed in the static caravan and it had not been used for months. I did explain that I was careful to remove them from the beds. Is your garden as neat as your house Phiferindia? I am not anti-clean, just anti-housework and always playing catch-up with the garden.

Thanks phiferindia but I don't want to get rid of the spiders or their eggs, unlike lots of people I like them so I don't clear them away, I know some people are afraid to go near them & would rather clean to get rid of them but I'm not like that. I do dust away the cobwebs inside the house every so often though when I notice them!

We have another little flurry of moths in the garden, this time day flying magpie moths which look more like a butterfly. I found lots of their pupae in amongst the front hedge & ivy when I was cutting it back & tried to leave them all there & now there are lots of the moths about. This is one of the pupae stuck on the side of the old recycling box! This is one of the moths.
