What a good idea. I tried all sorts of things, like cardboard (stupid me), and it went as mouldy as the peanuts at the bottom. I did not use them this year as the price has gone up considerably and I would have to work out systems to stop the dratted squirrels from eating them.

Peanuts are ridiculously expensive to buy, the shops are wanting £38 - £49 for 12.75 Kg of them. much as i love the birds in my garden, i can't pay that amount of money for peanuts.

Rosie I stopped using them after SueA complained about the price and she said somewhere that her birds will have to learn to do without them. I just thought that she is so kind to the wildlife, if she does this, then I won't feel so bad. Therefore, I bought no peanuts this year and still had a lot of birds.
