First buds appearing on the cordons. One flower has appeared on a pot which didn't get planted. The var. is mixed fragrantissima. Must find some places to bung them in as still got quite a few left.

Mine started to appear about 2 weeks ago. I've been removing them until now as the plants were still a bit weak, but now they are stronger so time to let them develop.

I have heard that some folks do this however the late Bernard Jones reckoned it best to let these early buds flower as it helps the plant to get into the flowering habit. (his words, not mine and he was perhaps the greatest ever sweetpea expert) However in gardening as with so much else, if it works for you then do it.

When I say weak, you should see see some of the plants. Out of 100 I planted, I would say 60 look very good, 15 not so bad, 15 a bit dodgy, and I lost 10. I started off with about 140, and from those I was going to pick the best to plant out as always. Unfortunately, because of that "hurricane" and torrential downpour we had which battered them badly, I ended up planting what I could. They all got mixed up too so what with the seedlings and the others, goodness knows what we'll end up with.

Sometimes , 'The best laid plans o' mice and men' come to mind. started off with some good intentions today but the abysmal weather knocked that on the head. At least I managed to detendril and ring the ones that needed it. I do miss the old days when I would grow 400 minimum and think nothing of it. Could never manage the 1,000 odd plants that some grow. Must be very time consuming especially when the plants are producing on a daily basis.
