We went for a drive to Llangollen today & a (very!)short walk along the canal there, on a day like today I wish I lived there it's so beautiful in the sunshine. This is the cottage I would live in (apart from the fact that you have a constant stream of tourists walking past saying 'Ooh, I wish I lived there!' Family of ducks snoozing in the sun by the canal. 'Stan' one of the horses who pull the tourist narrowboat along the canal. Steam train in the station. View down the river which was full of people paddling among the rocky islands.

Oooh lovely. It reminds me a bit of Ludlow with it's rocky river, old houses and woods, but, well, rockier. I hope I can visit Llangollen someday if I have the chance... must be about an hour up the road from me I guess. Love the photo of the ducks - they posed just perfect What a gorgeous day to be there.

Did you paddle too, SueA? Lovely photos. Nope, lovely day but it looked a bit cold & looked very slippy from the way people were sliding about in it. It also has a very strong current, they use it for canoe/kayak races sometimes.

It's well worth a visit if you're ever in the area Bess , peony & Tel . It's not a very big place & has a few cafes & shops ( very good if you like pies/pasties/ Welsh cakes & 'oggies' ) , the steam trains , the river, the canal, lovely walks & beautiful Valle Crucis Abbey ruins nearby. Somehow I don't think I could afford that picturesque cottage Tel!

This is en route when you do the Offa's Dyke walk.
I have been to Llangollen before but only to go to nearby Celyn Vale Eucalyptus nursery (which was closed :/) I think it was sadly in the throes of closing down. Still went in though and had a nose around. Hundreds of trays of Eucalyptus seedlings of many different types What a waste....
Had a look at their collection of mature trees on the site. Some are truly magnificent specimens!

I must have missed that when it was open Fractal , I tried to look it up online & from what I could gather it's no longer open as the owner sadly died. If you ever pass through Cheshire Grasslands Nursery at Peover has a good selection of large trees & plants including bamboos, acers, eucalyptus etc., some are massive & expensive but interesting to look at.

Thanks for that SueA. Sad that a business had to close like that. Thanks also for that info on Grasslands Nursery too I will definitely be paying them a visit soon.
