But why the brown patches on the leaves which have appeared in the last few days.

I could be wrong, but that looks like sunburn to me. I think those leaves might have caught the sun when they were wet. Are there many like that? It would look beautiful grown as a hedge.

As you say it does look good as a hedge.

I agree. Griselinia comes from a well watered part of New Zealand and if the roots get too dry and the sun is hot over a long period it can lead to this leaf scorch. I t should grow out ok but I would be tempted to soak them once a week if this heatwave keeps up.
