Please can you identify this hedge and what is causing the problem with the leaves, is it the very hot and dry weather? Thanks.

Discovered that this is a Griselina littoralis aka New Zealand Privet.
But why the brown patches on the leaves which have appeared in the last few days.

Welcome to Garden Friends roy. I could be wrong, but that looks like sunburn to me. I think those leaves might have caught the sun when they were wet. Are there many like that? It would look beautiful grown as a hedge.

Doubt if it is wet leaves, we have not had any rain for weeks now and they have only appeared over the last few days, a few more each day. As you say it does look good as a hedge.

In that case roy, it needs someone with real brains to look at it. Such people are lurking about on this forum. Come on steve and Fractal and the other experienced gardeners.

I agree. Griselinia comes from a well watered part of New Zealand and if the roots get too dry and the sun is hot over a long period it can lead to this leaf scorch. I t should grow out ok but I would be tempted to soak them once a week if this heatwave keeps up. Welcome to the forum too roy

Thanks for the confirmation regards the heat, will indeed give it a watering if things continue.
