CB, there is a temporary measure you can take to postpone layering for a few days. As you will know when you layer you will get many distorted stems but you can just undo the lower rings and slip the haulm down so that it curves out and you will have lowered the stems by a few feet and still have the stems ok. After the show you can then fully layer in your own fashion. Mine are at the top of the canes too but I am only growing for the house and not showing so a few bent stems wont matter overmuch. good luck at the show. You never told me this in my 'masterclass' sweetpea. What a good tip! The master always holds something back, otherwise the pupil may become the master.

Oh boy! You're devious Tel. You have learnt this from your mother, or another woman.

You never told me this in my 'masterclass' sweetpea. What a good tip! The master always holds something back, otherwise the pupil may become the master. Some things are pretty much commonsense Cherry. The question never came up so I wouldn't have given it a thought really, sorry. Growing sweetpeas like most thing is really a matter of choosing your method out of several options. eg. To cover or not to cover? Each has it's positive and negative aspects and some folk swear by one or the other. To my mind this means no RIGHT way and no WRONG way. Just DIFFERENT ways and it is all a matter of individual choice. Some folks water and/or feed their SPs. Again, individual choice. I never do either with the one exception of an occasional spray of seaweed extract or (if you can get it) soot water. This does give an extra subtle 'Glow' to the blooms. Some folk seem to have a natural aptitude to growing plants and you have that cherry. You are not just knowledgable but seem to have that sense of what to do for a plant requiring some help. Some folks call it green fingers

Thanks for the compliment Sweetpea. That makes me want to get out and get rid of the weeds.
