Been non stop since Saturday's show trying to catch up with all the jobs in the garden so no time to get a report until now. Pictures definitely to follow. I put 8 vases of 7 in. When I left at 9pm Friday I was on for 5 firsts. When I finally arrived on Saturday to get the results I discovered a load of other people had entered Once I got over the shock of all the exhibits in my classes I ended up with one first and one third. The first was for some Jimmy Shand....that beat 5 other entries, and the 3rd was for Millenium, against 6 entries. That was really pleasing because the standard and number of entries was better than the nationals. Exhibitors in my classes, the under 100 plants, came from Durham,Derbyshire, and Lanacashire, as well as a few more locals. My 2 vases of 7, Millenium and Sir Jimmy, didn't look out of place but the competition was so good. Likewise my 3 vases of 7, when I put in my pink seedlings, Maroon seedlings, and a vase of Millenium. No chance with what I entered against the tried and tested varieties, but I achieved what i set out to do by getting them in. And my best blooms of the seedlings were on a par with the Gwendolines and White Frills. Just not 7 good enough. My mixed vase of 7 comprised of 7 different coloured seedlings, 4 of which people showed a bit of interest in. They looked pretty good considering I had a choice of one spike for most of them, but again, some fabulous entries from the other exhibitors. In the championship classes, entries were on a par with the nationals. Probably more. Some wonderful displays in the 12 vase, 9 vase, 6 vase of 15, and all the way down the divisions. Exhibitors again from all over the country. Most of the exhibitors blooms suffered dramatically over the last week...stems reducing in length, 3 blooms per spike appearing so to get the entries that they did was a great achievement. Looking forward now to next year. Plan is to save more seeds from the different colours, get a bit more organised with my planting out, and aim for 16 plants of 10 varieties. If just half come true they can all watch out

Many congratulations scrumpy. What a great result. I think growing fewer varieties with more of each to choose from is a good idea too. sweetpea says that sweetpea seeds are fixed colours, so it would be fine to save your own seeds.

I have to upgrade my flash player or something and as husband is away I don't want to break the computer. I have already locked a double glazed window so that it won't shut at all.

Well it's Wem show Saturday. Heavy Atlantic rain forecast tonight, so have just cut them. Not a good cut, may just about get 4 vases of 6. My best chance would be if no one else entered Will have a proper look at them tomorrow morning.

In all honesty the fact of just getting a multivase exhibit entered is an achievement in itself. i used to look at other folks' exhibits and think I had no chance but the judges would think otherwise so I gained a lot of confidence over the years. in my old garden my double rows could only hold 40 plants so if I needed a vase of 15 all 40 had to be the same variety. the usual advice then was to grow 3 times the number of stems required. Not always possible with me. When I moved to an allotment I couldn't find the time to give the proper attention plus there was the odd spot of vandalism. So well done scrumpy you can hold your head high.

Managed to put in 5 vases of 6. White, Pink, Mauve, Sir Jimmy and mixed. Had terrible problems with petals dropping, as did just about everyone else. The heat and humidity has been a nightmare. Each vase has got 5 reasonable stems, so hopefully the others in the same classes will be just as bad and I'll have a bit of a chance.

They all face the same challenges with the weather which makes it more of a level playing field.

Just got back. Some looked a bit sad Managed one first ( Pink/Cream) one 2nd (white) and two thirds...... Mixed and Sir Jimmy. Biggest thrill for me was for my neighbour, who had a go for the first time in the novices section and got a first for his vase of 7 mixed ( all my seedlings ) Look of pride on his face as he saw the winning card made the whole show worthwhile. Certainly brought back a few memories He's bought his varieties from the show for next year, Fields of Fire, Eclipse and a new lavender flush one, Helen Millar. Got a feeling he'll do well with them. There weren't as many entries as last year, but still a good turnout. Will post pictures a bit later.

Another convert then scrumpy. Certainly is. We put in "virgin" soil when we built his bed. Won't need to do much to it for next year. Got to go round and layer them again for him soon. We'll certainly help him grow for the nationals next year.
