Hallo - many thanks for the lovely messages. We're actually celebrating my birthday today, as I had a Parish Council Meeting last night. I'm off to a Spa, via a Nursery!!! Should be a lovely day. The only fly in the ointment is that I have had a bad reaction to a critter bite on my leg, which is angrily red and swollen. No idea what bit me, but my goodness - whatever it was, my system has rebelled!

Obviously too bad for Anthisan Geranium. You may need an anti-histamine prescribed by the doctor. Whatever bit you will have siblings.

I had a bite from something the other day and it cleared up miraculously when I dabbed it with antihistamine though I think this was an over the counter product. Just checked, it is actually 'Anthisan'

I think it is marvellous stuff Sweetpea and took it to Australia, but there was nothing as savage as our home bred insects. Snakes were a worry, but Anthisan would not do for them. I used to use it when I was a teenager in Victoria and Anthisan was then pale green. I loved the colour, smell and comfort. It is very old. Boots used to make one which was cheaper and exactly the same, but I don't think it is available now.

Hallo everyone - sorry we were too late back to tell you about my 'treat' day. It was lovely; we stopped off at a Nursery which specialises in exotic plants, and as my friend had given me a voucher as a gift, I had a good browse round. I ended up with a Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy', and a Michauxia tchihatcheffii - try pronouncing that, let alone spelling it! I was given the Michauxia because the owner knew it was my birthday. Then on to the hotel, which has a spa. We had a light lunch, then I was booked in for the afternoon. They had a steam room, a sauna, a foot spa and a large hot tub. I had two treatments, a facial and a back massage. I almost dozed off! Very relaxing. We went back to the hotel lounge and ordered a pot of tea - but their teas are famous, and we saw a couple indulging - they couldn't finish it all! I just fancied a cream scone with a strawberry on it, and they brought a tray with fresh scones, cream and a whole dish of strawberries. It was delicious - the high spot of the day! We ambled round the grounds, then sat and read in comfort until dinner time. That was pretty special, too. Where was the dog in all this? My friend looked after him. We arrived home at 10.30. It was my sister's treat - she didn't know what to give me, so she and my husband came up with this, at the suggestion of my friend, who had been to the hotel and knew how lovely it was. My leg is a little better today - I had to wear a fetching plaster over the bite yesterday. At least it's not hurting any more, but it's still red and hard. Everybody agrees it must have been a horsefly.

Geranium what a wonderful birthday present. That was even thoughtful of your friend to look after Henry. How can you come down to earth after all this? I have that Cercis and the leaves are still brilliant, even though it is in hot sun. It takes the weather very well here. I looked up the Michauxia and what a super write-up it got from Chiltern Seeds. Sounds good.

Had many a bite from them.
