Thought I would tell you about another scam to be aware of.
Last week on Monday 2nd Sept. Maureen was travelling to Surrey to visit son using my car as hers was in for repair.
Just after reaching the M25 she went to pull in to the next lane and as she did so a truck pulled immediately in front and slammed on the brakes giving her no chance to avoid smacking into the tow bar of the vehicle.
A guy got out and appeared very solicitous and said as there was no damage to his vehicle not to bother with details etc. He gave a mobile phone number and was given my son’s number to contact. They didn’t want to know about insurance or anything and drove off before the police arrived leaving her in middle of motorway.
Luckily she wasn’t too badly hurt, mainly seatbelt bruising and shaken up.
We assumed at first that as it was a couple of Irish pikeys or ‘travellers’ or whatever you want to call them that they had no insurance or tax and it was only the next day that the phone calls started asking for money £500.00.
My son who dealt with all the hassle cottoned on immediately and soon told them where to go in Anglo Saxon style English..
The police seemed not to bother so there is a strong letter going in about that quite apart from the fact they left an elderly clearly distressed lady sitting at the side of the motorway on her own for about an hour waiting for recovery to arrive..
All that aside however, I have since heard that this is a fairly common incident and these scum never seem to be apprehended being as they are on the move and no fixed abode. So anyone driving particularly a lone female should be aware of this and be on their guard.
ps My car was a write-off
