Got a bit of rot on the uncovered plants recently, probably due to a little damp spell starting last Tuesday. I don't foliar feed if its dull or damp, so don't think I caused it. It was in the new growth around the buds. Sprayed with systhane yesterday. Is Trellyn slow or what? Single stopped on 16 June and 21 June, not a single bud to be seen anywhere!! But the Marston Suzanne plants are turbocharged.

Lovely monsoon we had last night, to go with all day rain yesterday. Things looking a bit sad, i'm avoiding looking at them closely until I cut them tomorrow morning for the show, when hopefully, if no more rain, they'll have dried out a bit.

Hi Steve in my experience with Kiwi (to late now) is Kiwis like to be warm so if they can be covered from day one great, (a cloche over the plants for the first few weeks is good) If not put in slightly bigger plants and stop them straight away. I put in small plants and on my land they are fine and bud up towards the end of July onwards. They love plenty of water and do not require too much feed I feed them two feeds high nitrogen then seaweed, some comfrey but no direct potash feed. You know my thoughts on thinning the plants out and basel leaf removal.
Scrumpy good luck with the show, where are you showing?
More lovely rain last night and this morning great Hehe Covers will have to go on soon with some colour now showing on the plot. Good luck fellow Dahlia nuts

There should be a bit more competition at Shrewsbury this year due to the early blooming for a lot of growers, Frankie Taylor is there with his miniatures I have been told. Covers up for me today, Midlands and Birmingham single bloom next week plus a local show which I support. A lot of my society are in full bloom, so there should be a bigger turnout than usual, the midlands single bloom normally has 150 + entries.

I hope there was not too much damage, hope you have a good cut tomorrow.

Will try and post some pictures tonight of the beds. They look wonderful from a distance I think it will be a quantity rather than quality year this year. Just going to be struggling on the giants. Fairway Spur is damping off, first time it's done that on me. Time for a change I think.

Not sure Geranium, looks a bit like Happy Single Kiss. I'd agree with that Tel. It is a very pretty little dahlia.

I have 2 Trellyn Kiwis planted under the permanent covers just to trial them under there, (instead of all eggs in one basket when I'm trying to learn the foibles of a new to me variety) And they have buds about 10mm diameter!!!! when checked today. The first Marston Suzanne is out today, very pleased with it and the way the plants grow....up! So plenty of room between the plants which will allow me to get more plants in the same area next year, plus the shape of the plant allows plenty of air to circulate. One petal has a yellow streak............not a problem! thanks to a lesson on how to deal with it

Good luck at Shrewsbury Scrumpy.
Steve keep the yellow streak to yourself Hehe
Just been taking all the thin stuff out of the miniatures and yet more disbudding. Well it has been great growing weather for Dahlias, just to get them covered now as the buds are starting to break colour. Happy days

Well Scrumpy you look to be in full flush does not look as if you will have much after next week. You should do some damage with that lot, again good luck see you at Southport.
