Managed to get 5 poms, though they are not the best I have had, have got 3 Wyn's Favourite, small dec, really not big enough, but I am taking them or they would only be left on the allotment. If I did not have the trophy to return, I would not have bothered taking the blooms. Came away with the silver medal for the poms and the bronze for Wyn's Favourite. neither exhibit deserved a medal, if I was the judge, I would not have awarded any medals in the dahlia classes.

Great result candyblue, lovely blooms in the photos.
Well done to you too tel. Were the exhibits really that bad that you would not have awarded the medals?

Oh my gosh, that's a bit harsh. Reading your posts you always come across as being very fair but was the standard really that low? Was there a good reason why the date of the show was changed? Hopefully with more notice there will more strong competition in the dahlia classes next year? The weather has been rubbish and it might have put some people off going if their blooms were not up to standard. I hope that you haven't been put off going next year. p.s. Maybe you should sit the judging exam... seriously (or have I missed that you already are?)

Wow candyblue your dahlias are fantastic. Congratulations on all your prizes - well deserved. I wish I could vase up as well as you but I struggle with singles.

I entered a show yesterday as well.
I took 1 Tisa, 2 Willo's Violet and 3 Gurtla Twilight poms. 2 Weston Pirates - Miniature, 2 Ruskin Myra - one not photographed as it wasn't good enough to enter, a Ryecroft Zoe and 2 Peach Delight medium semi cactus. I won 1st and 2nd with the Peach Delights and a 1st with 1 of the Pirates. So I'm happy.

Staging the blooms is something that comes with practice. Before I started showing I would cut any blooms that were ready and stage them in a vase with oasis at home. Also watch how other exhibitors are staging at the shows if possible. Be patient though as it can take some time to get right.

Well done moonlight Your winners are very nice blooms, your pirate unplaced was a bit shallow compared to your other pirate. but I am sure you knew that.
