I have about 430 in Lou got half of them done this weekend.I like to get them ready to lift just in case the weather changes suddenly for the worst and once the clocks change I can only get up saturday and sunday after work. That's a unenviable task DC, it takes me ages to cut my lot down, and I got no where near as many as you, good luck with that my friend

Well yesterday I have cut half of my dahlias down, but didn't get to finish the rest as cut the top of my finger with the secateurs. Was really lucky as I managed to cut half way across the tip, another little bit further and I may have cut the whole tip off! Me being me wouldn't go to A&E on a Saturday but we managed to steri strip it together and its stopped bleeding so hopefully starting to heal now

Yes they are quite nice Lou, did'nt no that you no longer show dahlia's anymore 'fraid not Ian. My show career was short....but quite productive. You know how time consuming it is and I had to prioritize. At least I can get to Harrogate, and cheer you lot on when you are getting ready for your shows....One good thing is I get to keep my nails nice...lol ...I'm going to try my hand at raising some seedlings next year.... Lou78W How have you managed to keep your finger nails nice? My thumb nails are horrible after prying apart the seed heads. You are much better at it than I am!

If you can control the size of Suzanne by growing plenty on a plant, then do not take many side shot of it you will get great showable blooms. Barbarry's are very good but tend not to make much of a tuber Pip is good as is Surprise and there are many more. Most only grow about 3 1/2" tall so very manageable. Grow what you like All the best Ian

I saw at show Barbarry Surprise and that deep purple is gorgeous and I saw Marston Suzanne and I quite liked that to but I was put off a bit by a fellow exhibitor saying that it had a very short flowering 'shelf life' - n.b. my phraseology.
Almost all my dahlias are 1 plant of each variety and I don't really have that much room.
Is this a problem that other members have experienced? Most of my dahlias are bravely flowering away with lots of buds to open poor things. I was eager to grow these varieties and then was put off a bit. If it is a problem is there anyway of eeking out their flowering shelf life whilst managing to maintain the classification size and not ending up with tiny blooms?

Miniatures do not need lots of space the only problem with Suzanne is keeping down to size if you intend showing it as I said earlier. It also can be a tall grower.

Hi Raymond, In answer to your question I grew 3 plants of Dikara Superb. I only grew decs this year and found this one be easy to grow. Made many mistakes. Am expanding next year with cactus and small Pom varieties. Hopefully I can do better in 2015.
