My Dad laughed when I asked him if the C.View ones had grown at all.

I meant to comment on Tel's remark earlier that you need electricity in the g'hose to propogate your cuttings from tubers. Actually you don't. I have successfully over many years struck cuttings with just a small paraffin heater under the bench and also - believe it or not - from tubers in a tray on top of the compost heap with a cloche over them. Even when covered in snow they were fine. We did have rabbits then and the compost did get quite hot. Obviously leccie is best but not absolutely essential, sorry Tel.

Well Dad has been and gone! Tubers are over all much better but the significant difference is that on their website their is the option for 'pot roots' - where available. Most of the other places in the US that we have seen only send out the single 'chicken wing' piece of tuber.
Unfortunately they only sent 10 of the 11 ordered, emailed them so will wait and see.
Other than that, so long as they grow, happy with the order and would order from them in the future. Received a reply to email and they have refunded the cost of that tuber. Dad will be disappointed because he wants to grow new varieties and next year they won't be new any more. However the fact that they have said sorry and returned the money was probably the best option for us. A refund is better than having a $10 credit and it would cost them so much to get another certificate done and postage to the UK (& they might have sold out by now). I think that this was the fairest option.
That the other tubers grow.

I can well imagine that, at Mum n Dad's they have manure heaps that get so hot that they steam and you can feel the heat through your boots. Totally believable. I love the smell of paraffin heaters pity that paraffin cost so much nowadays. Ever since I've tried to start my tubers off we have had frosts. Got them covered over with newspaper again tonight. I think I put the mockers on it. I've been told that there is going to be a mini heatwave the next few days be good if it does.

Compare and Contrast Tubers:

Clearview Tammy 2014:
& Clearview Tammy 2014 that arrived yesterday from an alternative US supplier.
Close up of shoot.
All down to luck. When Dad 1st saw Tammy 2013 - said that there was no way it would grow, the one sent out this year was better but obviously yesterdays looks more of a piece and with the shoot good sign. Ultimately both might grow or neither but hopefully if it does grow, it will be worth it.

Mental Note to self:
Long talks on tubers make it a lot easier to pick up with other hand supporting but chop them lower when trying to get them to grow for cuttings.
I keep catching the ones with taller stalks which can't be good for any baby roots trying to develop.

I have been accused of being a snob. In our local bargain shop and he picked up a bargain dahlia pack tuber. Humpf.
Then Fairy Pink Wellies joined in what about this pack... double Humpf
So I muttered something along the lines of 'are you saying that we need to buy any more dahlias???' Humpf
Ok unrepentant snob but if they really want to buy me another dahlia...... I really want to grow Weston Stardust. That has been top of my wish list ever since I 1st saw it.

The Mother's Day Jasmine that I bought my Mum for Mother's Day at the school fund raiser sale, has open up and smells wonderful. I said to Fairy Pink Wellies to smell it, so she put her nose right on it and smelt it. 'eurgh yuck. Don't like that can't stand that smell' but it is gorgeous, one of the most wonderful smells ever. 'I don't like it!' Humphf

It's a lovely warm sunny day. HH is busy picking up the branches and general garden debruy ready to fill the green bin.
Feeling very blessed right now. The family that I we never thought we would have. Here celebrating Mother's Day. We will be seeing my Mum, Dad and sister later. We are so lucky. If I had a magic wand the only thing that I would changed would be for HH's Mum and Dad to be here sharing it with us.
So lucky.

I have to share my OH's mothers day stuff as I am an orphan - boo hoo-. When i get asked why I don't get her anything I say it is cos she is not MY mother . it was her birthday on thursday too so she is inundated with prezzies. (I got her a toolbox) No, not as daft as it seems. Watched Monty Don potting up his dahlia tubers on GW last night. he just potted them up and stuck them somewhere warm for cuttings later. So many different ways of doing things. Enjoy your Mothers day ML hope you get really spoilt. And all you other mums too. No not chrysantheMUMS

We were out for a meal tonight. Went with Mum, Dad & Sister
It was Mum's Birthday on Friday, Mum n Dad's Wedding Anniversary & Mother's Day today.
And I managed not to talk to about Dahlias with my Dad the whole time.
Gosh it was difficult. Must confess I did ask HH if he wanted to know a secret. I haven't mentioned dahlias - yet.
To which Fairy Pink Wellies laughed and said you said it! You said that you haven't mentioned dahlias and you just did but I did have my phone with the dahlia page loaded up on Garden Friends if he brought the subject up.
