Halls facebook update for last night was worrying: Be wary of the weather tonight as it looks like clearing skies will see the temperature dipping to freezing point and possibly below in rural areas across the country. We all know Dahlias and tender young plants will be vulnerable if not protected. At this time of year they should still be ideally in heated greenhouses anyway.Went down to the greenhouse this morning and it was cold.
Been round my Mum n Dad's - Dad's got 60 seedlings potted up so far... Dad has heat on when he needs it.
So I've brought them in tonight.
So I'm guilty of mollycoddling them but I want to give my 5 the best chance of survival and who knows I might get another couple appear...

It's been a cold wet miserable day; I've brought the seedlings back up to warm up a bit. Also getting nervous that with the wet miserable weather the slugs and snails will be rapidly making an appearance. More seedlings have popped up.

It has been a lovely sunny day until it rained. My seedlings had their day trip to the greenhouse and are back in here for their bed time cocoa. (n.b. joke)(They don't live cocoa, they prefer Ovaltine.)
Dad's got loads of seedlings come up, 3 figure now... told my Mum how many but when he went back to the greenhouse - 3 had been eaten.grim.
Here are mine:
Should have got a better angle, to show size more clearly.
Downham Royal was my 2nd to get growing but hasn't grown as strong as the others. Let's hope that there is more action tomorrow.

Had a reply they are due to send out next week. So the earliest it will be here will be Wednesday.
Nope, maybe my Halls will arrive tomorrow... Girls will be annoyed if it does and I open it but I've tried to explain that if given the choice between plant dying because it had to wait even longer for a drink.

Pirate Yellow Wellies made a grim discovery in the garden today. She went and got a shoe box and wrote Lizard on the lid for it to go in. I've left him outside. He didn't look like the Slow worm we found last year. So I've asked in the General forum.

I think that the angry bear doesn't like me...
So there is a growling bear causing havoc on their servers but what about my viewing figures...
Someone's been eating my Viewing numbers. Bet it was Goldilocks...

Spoke too soon!
That bear is bigger and badder than ever before; so I'm not going to give you a long update, save to say that I've received my order from Halls and the plants are not as good as the ones from Station House. Disappointing. No photos tonight because I don't want to waste time editing them for me to loose the entire post because the bear got it.

What a fantastic pressie:
All potted up and smiling for the camera, my little army.
Thank you what a lovely gift. Shredded paper and compost everywhere in my lounge (as warned in advance) but so much fun.
Very Happy and Very Lucky to have such wonderful Garden Friends.

Updated:Today I've done a 'me' and pulled up 2 of my original tubers: Gurtla Twilight and Mary's Jomanda they both had a few fresh white roots but no eyes. Being a big softy and also guilty because it was me that dug them out (not very well) I've put them in a pot each and they will ever be grown as a pot tuber or not grow at all. Rubbish at throwing things away at the best of times but both these plants won classes for me last year and I don't just want to chuck them away but I'm not including them as one of my original tubers = (Alive) (Dead) but I very lucky because I've been given some replacements = mini plants bought from 2 tubers that I got this year took a while to wake up but have now. My tubers from the US Candy Jayne looked the most hopeful as it arrived with eyes but since arrival and nuturing from my Dad all that has changed is that the eyes have got bigger, no sign yet of anything more, so I'm sticking as a Candy Jayne and Dad was able to take a cutting from my Clearview Jenny. If Dad managed to take enough cuttings of Clearview Audrey then I've asked if I could have 1 (I wanted to order a tuber of it myself but there was no point ordering it as Dad was ordering it) so I've now included it as a
Think that that is it on the update... for now...Clear as Mum me, Clear as Mud.

Sorry for the last few boring posts but I'm trying to work out how I want to organise what I have, both in my garden but also my head.
Last few points about the shows. I'm not planning on entering giant, large or medium classes. I find the whole cut, tin and travel process too stressful with the little dahlias let alone bigger ones. I also don't think that I'll manage to get the timings right on the stopping to give myself a realistic chance with the bigger blooms. I think that I'd rather see them in all their glory in my garden rather than stress over what they may or may not be good enough to enter. I'm growing the Sir Alf Ramsey because HH and the girls like the fact that it grows so big. So it'll be nice to see if we can grow a biggie. I don't think that I'll be able to enter my Miniature or Small decs because my girls' dahlias are decs. (Well that was the plan anyway...)
I would like to enter Downham Royal, mini cactus/semi classes, pom and now collerette classes but more than that I'm looking forward to seeing what combination my Heinz 57 seedlings will be like and collecting seed for next year... Oh and the: '3 any type of Dahlia' (not including any of the other show classes) at my local show I'd really like to be able to enter that class. So Garden Friends - collerette or Edwin's Sunset - waterlily
